I'm sure we all have seen how dramatically IM has changed. Google is slapping the crap out of all of your small sites of ad words and micro niche sites. How have some of you come to cope with it? Obviously their is allot more education involved today to succeeding online as you could 7 years ago.

What are some of your new approaches now that the year is almost up?

To be honest with what I do I don't worry about Google. If you want to build a proper internet business you need to be focussing on the following:

    1. Identify a viable group of People who have a common frustration, interest or like and are hungry for more and more information (commonly called niche selection)

    2. Build an email list by providing a solution(s) to any problems they face or valuable information they might find of interest

    3. Build an amazing relationship with that list (by providing top notch content and looking after their interests) so that they are eating out of your hand and actually look forward to reading your emails

    4. Promote offers and services to your group of people (either your own or others)

    5. Make sure you build the whole of the above so it works on autopilot

    6. Then just duplicate and do again

There is enough information on these boards to explain each of these steps in more detail.

I agree ^^, what's old is new again. It used to be about the end user, the visitor, the person behind the computer. Then it became all about performing for Google. We lost the personal touch along the way. It's a lot harder these days to make a buck online, but good old fashioned customer relationship building and catering to the people is key.

The problem is not Google, and it is not just slapping the crap out of small sites but small sites that are not following the rules. The new approach is come to terms with your mistakes and correct them to avoid been hit again.
