I am wondering:

Question 1. What methods do you use for getting traffic to your Squidoo lenses? I'm a beginner just starting out, who is looking to create some passive income.

I am thinking backlinking, but if you have any other methods for getting traffic, please feel free to chime in.

Question 2. Can you describe the process for making money from your Squidoo lenses? I believe that I understand the process, but I want to ensure that I really do understand it.

Here's how I understand the process:

1.) Write good content
2.) Backlink to direct traffic to the lenses.

Seems too simplistic. Am I missing anything?

It really is simplistic. However i do believe you are missing a few steps.

    1. Research the keywords you want to rank for.
    2. Add keywords in title and throughout & within the good content.
    3. Address the problem, aggravate it. Tell them what they can do to fix the problem. But dont tell them how.
    4. Add anchor text throughout content directing them to a site which tells them HOW.
    5. BACKLINK to your lense.

The way i see it squidoo is a high page ranked site and a great way of backlinking in itself.. What I would suggest doing is building an authority site (your own domain) and using squidoo as a backlinking site to direct traffic to your authority website. You can also backlink to your squidoo lense to increase rankings which will also increase the chances of your site ranking much higher in the search engines.

    Trust this helps,

    Best of luck ,
    Warm Regards,
    Matt

You have to plan in which you need to optimize your Squidoo lens 90% from on-page optimization..

So writing SEO friendly content in good length, in proper keyword density would help.

Thanks for the heads up. I had a feeling they did stuff like that.

I didn't plan on putting everything I had into that website, but I wanted to try to make like maybe around $100 off that site. Then use the income coming in from that site to build up my own website. Just stay under the radar and don't make "Too" much money from it.

Another idea came to me though, and I might try that instead.

If you have it there leave it, don't delete any pages you've built. Since you've already done the work you have nothing to lose by leaving it there.

I built some lens in "08" (I have a Pioneer Trophy. OMG I'm cool) and four of them still make money. I update them once a year.

If you build your own related site you can funnel traffic to it.

Including more info in your lens like videos, images, links & more.
In simple words provide loads of info and start building links from relevant niche.

As cheap as domains are at this point, I don't think I'd invest a lot of time in Squidoo vs. building a site myself on WP or something. I've put a couple of sites up with Squidoo, and while I haven't had any real trouble, I also haven't made any real money off them either. (I have had success elsewhere.) And there's always that spectre of having all your work deleted with no warning. Not worth it, IMO.
