Please review my site http://freestorageauctionlists.blogspot.com/

Hoping you guys can help me out. Long story short I used to make my side money going to storage auctions, yes just like on the tv shows. Ever since those darn tv shows came out however, crowds at the auction have exploded along with prices of units so I decided to find a different way to monetize this hobby and decided to start posting lists of auctions free of charge and making money via adsense.

I was completely new to internet type stuff so started out with blogger, still using it today. I've since started another business and used NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO- website tonight builder but don't like that one so thinking I'm going to stick with blogger as I'm comfortable with it, its easy to use and I know how to use it.

Anyhow, I post storage aucitons for all 50 states. I'm not the most comprehensive site out there most sites are pay sites, mine is free. Also, if people message or comment on my site and leave a city, state, or zip I'll post more auctions for that specific area, I figure i'd rather spend the time and effort posting for people who will acutally read and use the lists I post.

Anyhow, looking for some tips, advice suggestions on the blog/site. Anything from my google ranking to the way the site looks to backlink tips

I've learned quite a bit since I've started this online stuff but still not nearly as advanced as most of you so if you give me a tip talk to me like I'm an idiot...which I sorta am lol

The site looks pretty good. Of course everyone is going to tell you to get your own domain and hosting. I agree that if you are serious, the small investment is well worth it.

If you insist on using blogger at least remove that stupid nav bar from the top. Here's how How to Remove blogger navbar 2011 | Simple steps to Disable or Hide blogger navigation bar using CSS | Remove the Blogger Top Admin menu in the Latest Template 2012 - How to

I think you have a great start going.

    Good luck.

That is a good tip in terms of getting my own domain/hosting. I am kind of overwhelmed at the idea of using something like wordpress and then trying to figure how how to host it on gdady or one of those sites.

For someone like myself who uses and is comfortable with with blogger in terms of how its used, how simple it is, etc what would you recommend would be a good blogger program or website builder program that I would most easily be able to transition to?

Not bad. I noticed some display errors in the left-hand menu (when you scroll down, the paypal buttons fall out of the boxes) and overall the main column is a bit...slim?

I'd agree to get your own hosting (~$9/m) and domain ($9/y). Wordpress might look overwhelming at first but it's really easy to get into it, very intuitive and tons of free tutorials around. Just jump into it, you can't break anything and if you do, just delete the database and start again Every host nowadays also has a decent auto-install feature for it, so don't worry about manually installing WP via ftp etc...

What do you mean, blog/website builder program to transition to? Something like blogger? If you're already comfortable using it but don't want to go the route with your own domain, why bother switching to another system similar to blogger? But if you still want to, there are a few sites you can try (can't post links yet so you've gotta google these):

        weebly
        hubpages
        squidoo
        tumblr
        wordpress.com

You seem to have blogger down. Setting up WordPress on your own domain and hosting is really easy, and as mentioned above there are many video tutorials available for free.

IMO taking the time to learn WP will be the best investment in your online success that you could make.

How much does your own domain and hosting help?
What if I just did my own domain?

It gives you a lot more control of your site. Free hosting on blogger can be terminated by Google for a variety of reasons, without warning or explanation.

Looks good. Clean and simple. The ads aren't over the top which is good.

Perhaps make the categories (the states) on the side more uniform in terms of capital letters etc. Will make it look more proffessional.

  • I am confused here. Which one is your site? Site in the post or site in the signature.
