Where is the Money in the List?

I am asking this question because I keep hearing again and again that "the money is in the list". Can anyone please really explain in simple terms?

To check this I subscribed to some self acclaimed IM gurus in hope that they will tell something about it. But what all they did spammed my inbox with their and other's crap & BS affiliate offers.

Thanks

More email list (quality list) and both share the same interest. The higher chance they will buy from you.

They have to trust you and believe in you first.

Maybe the money is not in their list anymore...or maybe most of the people who post on WF aren't the type of people that the gurus make money from.

Like it or leave it, the money is in the list.
If you are doubting setup a new site with an opt in page and send targeted traffic to it and compare with a site with no capacity for collecting emails and follows and see the huge difference in earnings.

If your list is huge, targeted, active and not spammed by you, you will surely make money.

It simply means...the money is in the coverage, the coverage being your e-mail list. The more followers you have subscribing to your work...simply means you'll achieve more popularity. You could do multiple things with an E-mail listing, advertise a youtube video...a product, a niche article...thus, with the simple click of "Forward" to a friend...you've gained an extra user...if they've decided to subscribe, too!

It's similar to the saying "The Proof Is In The Pudding" which means; You'll never know how good the pudding tastes until you try it,etc.

Because I build up a relationship with my subscribers I am able to buy a product, review it, then send an email to my list and hey presto I can turn a profit.

Now this doesn't happen overnight, unless you want to go down the "churn & burn" route where you prey on newbies and send out daily offers safe in the knowledge that you have a system which generates enough leads to turn a profit.

If you're just after sheer profit do down this route, do the maths and find the highest converting products that pay the most to affiliates. Afraid that morals may have to left as these products tend to be over hyped and just reworked PLR with no real content.

Building a quality list will take a lot longer, but ultimately I find it more rewarding than following the herd and promoting stuff because the JV page was awesome, and if I can make 10 sales I'll get a mailing in return.

Someone lands on your website looking for information about your service/product. They might be in a buying mood and take out their credit card. They might not, and decide to leave. There are a lot of variables to be taken into account as to why they didn't purchase on their first visit to your website, and you'll never find out either unless you can contact them again. This is why you get their contact information and followup with more information/promotions etc.

It's not really difficult to see why the money would be in the list. But, if your marketing/sales/information/whatever is not appealing, it's easy to see why the money is not in every list. That's just a broad sample of how it looks but you get the idea, i hope.

    I break it down quickly.

FREEBIE seekers on a list = GOOD

PROVEN BUYERS on a list = PURE bloody GOLD!.

you look after those proven buyers list, even if its teeny tiny list and you will never have to work a crappy 9 - 5 job ever again.

Money not in the list - money in the relationship you build with that list.
You can have a list of just 40 people but if they trust you and want to hear from you then you can make good money selling products or services to them (yours or others)

Basically the larger your list grows, the more likely you are to make money on an everyday basis. Not really necessary on the front end - but utterly important with backend marketing, since this is where ALL the money is at.

The relationship that you build with your list is ultimately what decides the income you generate from your list.

Provide massive value to them and you will do well

Always be building your list, I ignored list building for 3 years online - biggest mistake ever!!

Big Hint - Guru's don't spam your inboxes.

The idea behind the list is when you build your own you can promote your products or other affiliate offers or products you are selling to your list with a review. A lot of customers appreciate it and will purchase the product.

So if you got like 1000 on your list and say half buy a 20 dollar product you would be bringing in close to 10k

I could go into splitting hairs like a lot of others and say, "the money is in the list" or "no it's not in the list, it's in the quality of the relationship you have with your list" or "no, it's not the quality but if you have a freebie list or a buyers list."

But for the sake of keeping things as simple as possible

A list gives you a second chance to sell to someone.

    For example...

Let's say that you have 10 people visit your site. And 3 of those people buy your product.

This means that those 7 people, as soon as they leave your site, are potentially gone forever, you will not get another chance to sell to them.

Sure they could possibly come back, but you have no control over that.

    But...

If you had an opt-in form, and you had those same 10 people come to your site. 3 of them buy your product immediately, and again that leaves 7 who chose not to.

However, in this second example, let's say that out of those 7 who are choosing not to buy right now, 5 of them opt-in for your list.

Because these 5 people are now on your list, you now have a second chance to promote your product to them.

And that is where the saying "The Money is in the list" comes from.

I think newbies or people who are just starting out list building should just focus on this and not worry about quality, or freebie seekers, or buyers list yet.

Just get this basic concept down, and understand that you get a second chance.

Then once you understand and trust that, then and only then can you start focusing on the quality of your lists, and whether it's filled with freebie seekers or if it's a buyers list, etc.

The money is in the list.

if you have a targeted list like say running shoes and send them offers on improving their running time, what the pros wear for footwear best energy drinks to refuel the body etc, you will most likely begin to profit because you are hitting your target with what they want.

if however you have that same list and send them deals on astronomy kits you probably won't make much, if any profit and most likely will lose part of your subscriber base.

So the truth of the matter is the money is in the market you are hitting and the people who have interest in it. there are an awful lot who just send out offers like throwing spaghetti at the wall hoping some stick and then write products on how to make money. which is seriously shameful and quite laughable at the same time.

If you look at techniques used by major companies that are publicly traded etc you will see they use the same tactics most do. they offer free samples of their products, they crossell and promote etc. they know once a person is in the funnel it is gravy for them. the problem is people who try to look like big companies build funnels but their only purpose is in squeezing every last cent out of their prospect where as a real business draws the money out like a bank. by offering special deals, bogo etc.

they build long term bases as opposed to disposable bases. so I encourage you to target your market, draw the people and treat them with respect by not sending every offer under the sun or simply because you have obligated yourself through affiliate promotions etc. Hit your market the list will respond and you will benefit just as they benefit from you

in my opinion, it means that. The money is in the email list, your opt-in list. Email marketing is one of the best way to keep in touch with your targeted customers and convey product information to your prospects. The quality of the email list, your recipients' email addresses is also important. So if your email campaign has much more responses, then you can obtain more sales for your online business. Hope that can help you.

What you are doing by signing up for their mailing list is getting a first hand look at how the money is in the list, in practice from the target markets point of view.

Now imagine yourself on the other side; creating that email sequence to your list. Every so many days selling your story, and selling a product in that story.

When you open those emails. Do not look at what they are pitching, look at how they are doing it, and try to figure out what planning went in to creating that email and promo, and where all the connections lead.

Here's why list building is important. ESPECIALLY for people who get a majority of their traffic from google.

A lot of people here build a website. Rank their website. Then put adsense or other types of ads on their website and that's it. Visitors in, visitors out. It's a waste of opportunity...

If you got 100 visitors to your website everyday and your only source of income was adsense.. You would make less than 100$ a month from that site. Now if you started collecting emails you would be capturing a % of that traffic that slips through your site... Here's a simpler way to put it...

Think of your website like a small river stream that branches off from a bigger river. Right now all of your visitors(fish in this case) are going through your stream and leaving out the other side never to be seen again. Now instead of letting all that fish get away and go to waste... You decide to build a pond that branches off from your stream. Let's say 10% of all fish that pass through your stream go into this pond...

Now if you're a fisherman, the last thing you want to do is go fishing in a big river with thousands of other fishermen right next to you. But now you don't have to...You have your own small pond that's slowly filling up with fish that you can catch and live off of...

Eventually this pond will grow and get bigger and bigger over time. Soon you will have a lake and it will be filled with thousands of fish and it's all yours. You won't have to struggle to catch fish in the big river with all the other fisherman. You will have your own lake that will supply you with food (money). No more struggling to catch fish. You just pull up a chair, open a beer, and toss out your line and catch what you need, when you need it.

Your lake is your asset. Websites are at the mercy of Google and other traffic providers, But not your email list. Those people who are on your email list are your source of income and nobody can take that from you... One of the most important things you can do in this business is to build a stable income. It doesn't get anymore stable than having your own email list.

If you have a list, build a relationship with your list. After that, show them that you have a reliable product or service that can help them. Let them know what your product or service is and then there's the possibility that they will buy from you. This is how you get Money from your list.

Yeah I think list building is the way to go.

I started doing review sites for one off sales but with an email list and sending people through a sales funnel you are building more of a long term income per subscriber and customer.

And then you don't have to rely on Google rankings for all your traffic and money and can email out promotions to your lsit for instant traffic.

It's a long-standing adage in internet marketing, money is in the list because if you do not have one, where would you market your products? How can you generate more profits on the web? Essentially, your list of subscribers is your bread and butter as well as the lifeblood of this industry.

"The money is in the list." is an old pre-internet marketing adage. The idea was that if your advertising had already covered a lot of ground over the years, you could just go to the list rather than launch a sprawling ad campaign. It translates online in different ways, depending on your goals for the list.

This forum generally views list marketing as an equal or greater substitute for maintaining a website of the same number of eyeballs (you can decide on your own whether that's right or wrong).

I'm starting to fully realize what this means as well. I concur with everyone else in this thread that the relationship you develop with your subscribers makes the difference between making one or two sales and being able to rely on the income you get from making offers.

Let me put it the way I understand....who is likely to sell more? Someone peddling snake oil to people with an obvious sole motive of making a dollar off of you or someone telling a friend about something that helped them achieve some kind of results and passing them on to the source (that happens to be an affiliate).

Think about that for a while.

You can sell your own products, you can recommend other products and earn a commission or you can charge people for solo ads and send them to your list.

And I would rank their importance/effectiveness in the order I have provided them above.
