Is anybody having good results using forum marketing outside of the I.M. niche?

If so would you mind revealing your techniques? Thank you.

I am in the niche of building muscle for beginners

Being on certain boards for over 4 years and having thousands of posts helps, but what I like to do is send PM's to those who ask for help and don't receive any.

I will answer their questions (which are just about always the same) by sending them to related blog posts that I have previously written.

Doing so answers their questions, provides authority, and even gets them on my mailing list which is the best part.

    Hope this helps

we've tested with describing techniques in a post. so not as a self promotion but education type based. like "extended blog post" method and then forum signature where they see it. that way we get the content that is quality and answers question and then forward them to the product.. hope it helps

It's just like almost everything else in IM: it's all about quality and relevance.

There's only value in doing it in forums in your niche, where you can add value, build relationships, and attract the traffic you want to visit your own site. You need to find relevant niche forums (or as relevant as possible, anyway) where you can participate in the community and add something by being there. Everything else flows from that.

Do people generally signature link to a squeeze page, a blog, or a direct offer?
What kind of money can someone expect to make from forum marketing alone?
What about renting other peoples sig links?

    Thanks guys.

Some of the higher traffic forums allow their users to create pretty intricate blogs on their accounts which is a good way of getting links and creating informative content that other members like.

I generally link to a simple opt in form, no squeeze page, and offer a high quality product up front. But this is largely for the purpose of list building, I am not trying to sell anything at this point, just give things away...
