How To Increase Traffic To Any Website?

It seems that the traditional methods to get traffic to a website like building links, writing articles and adding content don't work any more. What else can be done to increase traffic?

All social media and linkbuilding strategies are good source of traffic but still build a quality content.

        Agreed.

Social Media provides a huge chunk of my traffic. LinkedIn currently topping that list.

Dexlink, I am surprised by the traffic for LinkedIn, it's not something I've personally used and though it was mainly a networking social media site for job hunters and career professionals. I though tFacebook would be everyones favourite for traffic from social media.

I think that's a mistake alot of people make to be honest.

LinkedIn has a massive "Groups" section where there are literally 1000's of groups covering every possible aspect of business, from Food to Internet Marketing to Toys.

By becoming an active part of the community that fits your online business best you can drive a load of traffic to your website, just as you can through Forums like this.

Be honestly speaking, I seldom do article marketing, maybe only 2 of my sites back couple of years ago. It did work initially.

I built backlinks to my sites from time to time. If I do, I generally use automatic ways. Don't like manual working. Too much tedious tasks.

Adding content to your sites still work! But you need to know what to write and publish. Know your readers needs, write and publish what they want to know. Give what they want. Your sites will rank, your site will get traffic. you will get sales.

Start using the power of social media if it is a content based site. You can also try to write guest blog posts until you build a strong following of your own. You would ask that following to spread your content to those on their social networking accounts. This will help your following grow even more.

If it is a product based website find a good method of paid traffic, but do not be so focused on getting sales. Instead do what you can to capture traffic so you can build a real business. This way you won't have to keep spending so much money on customer acquisition.

Youtube, facebook and classifieds. Between those 3, I can get a lot of targeted, hi quality traffic.

But please, don't just go uploading low quality/rehashed videos to get backlinks. They won't get you any traffic. The website I have now, I'm not even trying to rank in google. I rank videos in youtube, with a message that connects well with my market, and by doing that, I get lots of quality/targeted traffic. I don't even focus on the backlinks, but more on preselling the traffic. In fact I don't even really call it "preselling", I sell to them directly right on youtube.

Its more takeaway selling than anything. Not in your face "BUY THIS!" type of stuff. Often times I get calls straight from the videos, and people don't even go to the site, which to me means I'm doing my job.

Then you have facebook and classifieds to do the same basic thing. Remember, this is where traffic is getting their first glimpse of what you have to offer, so imho, its more important to focus on these areas, than your own site. You obviously want a good site, but I spend far more time trying to "takeaway sell" traffic where they already are.

    If that makes sense.

They still seem to work for me the thing is though you need to change your game-plan a bit with all the Google updates and many other SEO changes taking place you.

Here are a few tips that might help you out brother *for the record, these tactics have worked for me and are the current methods I follow to a successfully ranking website*

    1. Articles Writing & Submitting = This method still works BUT only if you are selective when choosing the directories to submit too. What does that mean...well the days of mass article submissions to worthless directories is behind us, now what works is few articles in VERY VERY high authority articles such as Ezine , as a matter of fact Ezinearticles is the only directory I submit to. With the occasional one or 2 to to Goarticles.

    2. Regarding backlinks / specifically Blog Networks = They are NOT DEAD, they have just changed. For example you can rely on just blog networks alone for all your backlinks needs, 2ndly you cant submit spun/syntax garbage. You must write unique & RELEVANT articles , if you would like to spin them , make sure they are still READABLE, they make sense, and they are UNIQUE which means passing CopyScape each and every spin!

Still on Blog Networks , here is what you DON'T Want to do. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT blast your site with so many syndicated articles in the networks, that's worse then playing Russian roulette...I usually syndicate 10 articles each spun (and still makes sense) 3 times for a total of 30 links from blog networks every month.

Next, make sure that your link building is consistant. Don't blast your site with 1000 links this month then 100 link next month or vice versa. Also if your site is less then 3 months old I highly DON't Recommend that you build any more then 50 solid links per/month before scaling up *speaking from personal experience*

    3. Guest Posting = Here is the catch to the previous couple paragraphs regarding Blog Networks. DON'T use Blog Networks if you DON't Guest Post. The reason why is because your guest posts will make up for any value lost in Blog Networks, Blog Networks Links = Many Low Value Links & Guest Posting = Few High Authority Links.

They complement each other, I know it seems strange that you would do both but hey thats what works and I think thats because Guest Posts give your site the Value links while Blog Networks increase your Link Count Portfolio because believe me you will never be able to Guest Post as much as the amount of links you get form Blog Networks.

    4. Paid Traffic / "Quality" Paid Traffic sources=

Google Adwords= high CPC but worht every penny (perfect for someone with startup capital)

Bing & Yahoo advertising center= low CPC & high ROI ( perfect for anyone really, only downside is not as much traffic as google, actually no where near that of Google)

Media Buying= Buying ad space on high traffic blogs in your niche ie(a side banner for a monthly fee of $100 or so) great method if you pick the right blogs and communicate with owner for prices.

OK sir, thats all I can think of right now...if anyone wants to add/clarify/contest any of my inputs please go ahead and do so, but again these are my own methods that bring results and others may disagree....

It depends on your website.. is a blog or a landing page?

For landing-page, I will usually go with paid traffic such as PPC, PPV, Solo-ads etc.. To me landing page is a short term thing (won't last for a year) and I don't want to spend time creating videos, writing articles, guest-posting, "seo-ing."

For blogs, no doubt, I'll definitely go with guest-posting.. its by far the fastest way to drive targeted traffic to my blog and build awareness. It's beneficial for my SE ranking and it's fun networking with fellow bloggers.

At times, I will create videos on youtube to reach out to more audience.

What you just described does work!

But I would focus more on writing content for your site and less on the building links part of things.

Naturally link between relevant content of yours as you go along rather than doing link building for the sake of backlinks.

Stay consistent with getting fresh new content to your site and getting more words on more pages based around relevant keywords and some nice longtail traffic will start to come through even if you are not ranking page 1 for one particular major keyword.

To say adding content etc doesn't bring traffic is a bit of an assumption to make.

In the long term, high quality content WILL bring you traffic -- Whether that be from Google or people recommending your content to friends, family or visitors to their own website.

Guest Posting is ANOTHER way which can bring A LOT of traffic - Again content related.

To increase traffic to any website, you must choose your traffic source, which depends on what kind of product you have. Article marketing can work, but it depends on how competitive the keywords are and the speed at which you submit articles within a certain period of time. Social media marketing is also great if you website is optimized for it.

Facebook ppc, I'm sorry to mention social networks, but blogs are powerful way to get tons of traffic. Craigslist is a huge way to get traffic. Say you submit 2 ads a day on craigslist and resubmit an ad every 48 hours as you submit 2 more ads a day. You have 60 active ads on craigslist. That is powerful. Keep looking you will find great strategies for your niche.

Oh yes, link building is still an important part of the SEO process, but you have to add social networking in the mix. Link building is like planting seeds all over the internet and they may not do anything for you for a few months but in the long run, you will be glad you did. GOOD CONTENT + LINK BUILDING + SOCIAL MEDIA = TRAFFIC => MONEY!

Get social is KEY! unless you wanna buy traffic.

As previously mentioned, guest posts, comments, communities, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. Video and pics are very effective and should be an aspect of EVERY campaign. It is also key to ensure social presence is relevant.

    Persistence is pretty important too!

As a couple of people have said this and it also seems to me that paid traffic is the way to go this year. Said it before and will say it again - gave up on Google over a year ago - makes no sense to base a business on THEIR whims - no sense at all!

If you want bulk traffic, you must try different link building activities that includes social media. Still, creating and posting quality content is the number one source. What are you going to post on social media sites if you don't have anything to share. Create a blog and maintain it by posting quality contents with mix of images, videos and don't forget to add the storytelling strategy to make it even more effective.

    All the best

I just posted this in another thread that magically changed subjects as I posted it. I figure it would do more good here:

One way I've been driving a lot of traffic to my new website (about 100 unique viewers per day) is through Pinterest. Since I run an image sharing website, it makes sense that Pinterest would be my most successful social media platform. Social media marketing is highly effective if you choose the correct platform, target your followers, and contribute excellent content.

If you're interested, I can share more details of how to grow your follower base and drive extra traffic to your site. BTW, I got about 140 real followers to my Pinterest account in the last 2 weeks and haven't followed a single person. And, I'm just getting started on there.

I use those traditional methods just to help in SEO and get organic traffic from there and not looking for traffic from the referral site that where i build those link.

I believe social media and youtube able to generate more traffic compare to those link building methods . But i have to said if your link building get help in serp ranking and get organic traffic will still top choice because more unique and higher conversion rate.

I agree with you. SEO and social media together is excellent. Both drive good targeted traffic. It's funny, I just did a backlink search on my image sharing site that's been live for about 6 months. Even though I get about 100 unique visitors per day, I still don't have even ONE backlink to the site yet. And, you know what... I have excellent content there and I'm doing well on Pinterest. It just goes to show you, you have to make an effort to get backlinks. They don't just come to you. I'm going to work on that now.

Well you have other options like paid traffic sources such as PPC, PPV and social media ads.

These methods all work, it just takes hard work and time

If you have the budget try going with paid advertising - then once you have a positive ROI outsource all the SEO work to a company

I've tried popunder advertising and find it to actually be a good traffic source - the user engagement, conversions, etc. are just marginally lower than regular users. Certainly better than my search visitors who typically have a higher bounce rate.

    Have you tried popunder networks?

Generating free traffic isnt a quick solution.

To get sustainable free traffic you have to spend time building up a empire of good content or great methods.

If you spend your time writing good content on a daily basis it will slowly add up in the long run.

    just take action!

Its not easy making money online. It takes a lot of effort.

Try writing good content that gets people involved.

Try writing content that gets buzzed around social media (facebook mainly) .

    Thanks

More traffic? Get involved in your niche's conversation. Post on the top blogs, get engaged with forum regulars.

A small example of this: a site of mine got mentioned on a European niche forum I'd never heard of the other week (thank goodness for Chrome's automatic translation) because of this social engagement. That one simple reference has driven around 80+ visitors a day to my site for the last five days. Though that's not an earth-shattering number, it illustrates the broader point ... get namechecked by the top people in your niche and you'll get a ton of traffic.

And it's not just the numbers that matter, it's that the authority has been passed on - this will almost certainly help your rankings in the long-term, and the visitors that have been referred will assume your site is credible and trustworthy.

I probably use 1/8th of this list and get a decent amount of traffic.

Traditional methods still absolutely work. If you are targeting things properly, then they work. My current site, which is about 7 months old, literally since the first week my traffic has been on a slow upwards progression. It takes its dips and rises, but overall, the average has been a nice steady increase.

By month 1-2, it was getting 10-15 impressions a day, now its around 250-300 impressions a day. And its a high profit/low search niche, so as low as that sounds is still very profitable for me.

It depends on how quickly you want results. If you want instant results, you need paid advertising such as facebook, google adwords, and so forth.
If you are willing to wait about 2 months. Blogs, forums, videos, and articles are a powerful way to get a long term source of traffic for free.

most people in here have gone to the trouble to give you some good tips.

But do you want an excelling one!

    Ok....here we go.....

When you build a site, have the end goal in mind. Yes, who, what and how you want people coming to your site.

People are not just going to come to your site.

So spend a few days and reseach the top forums, blogs, newsletters, and other site where your most likely client hangs out and go there and advertise.

We do this, and it brings in hundreds each day in several niches. And it is fun too.

So I would say go to the most likely place your target audience hangs out and put your messages infront of them. WIN WIN.
