I recently applied for the amazon affiliate program and I'm wanting to start a site focused on DVD's and other entertainment related products.

I'm debating whether to add TV's and Books as they are sort of related to it in a way. Or would it be better to strictly stick to dvd's?

Thanks

It really depends on the keywords you are focusing in on your site. I would recommend creating one website for each. That way it is easier for your site to rank for some competitive terms.

Isn't 1 general niche better then a small niche?
A small niche will get ranked faster but on a more general niche he will be ranked later but he will stay there for much longer.

    Thanks for the replies.

Well I'm going to try and rank quite well in this niche and hope to stick with it for as long as I can.

As for the domain, I haven't actually purchased that yet, only the hosting.

For Amazon, I think that it is a good idea to do both. You want to promote a good combination of higher price point items in with your DVDs. This way, you can use the lower price points to get you to the higher earning levels that will help you to make more money on the higher ticket items.

It depends on what you domain name is and above all your plan..

Amazon for instance house thousands of products then why can't you..

Simply, use a broad or general name for your keyword and create sections or categories for every products..

Don't get too broad but keep it close yo your websites topic, if the books are related to the dvd's than that is ok. I ran a construction business that sells chicken coops and I had amazon affiliate links with amazon chicken coop products on my coop page. I have over 80 varieties of products on that website with amazon links associated with each product. I had about 200 visitors daily on the site and made about $50-$80 per month on amazon commissions. It is not much, but it was side money for doing nothing.

It's a small world, I'm also a Lumsden from Scotland

Commission from DVDs is going to me extremely low. You'll need to sell a ton to make a good income from just a DVD site.

It also depends on the keywords your planning to target. Are they high traffic generic keywords of specific film names?

I would go with something that has more of a profit potential.

    Hey there...

I would promote items with a higher price tag. Get more commissions
that way. TV's, computers, cameras, etc.

    Have a great day,

You definitely should go for products with higher price tags.
And, dvds and books, especially the former, will soon become a thing of the past.
