I have WordPress websites with a static home page because it is then a real website with real structure and real content - Tier 2 and Tier 3 pages. Depth and content. And I use Wordpress because I can spend my time writing content, not messing around with html much anymore (although I still have to work with css and php).

Use a theme that is designed to look and function as a typical website instead of a blog, and life will be easier.

I use a sticky post instead of a static page. This way I can welcome the surfer and brief them on what the site is all about, yet still have the page change each time I make a new post.

Depends on what your goals are! For a simple product review and information site of course use static pages. However for blogs you cannot do that! There's no SEO pros or cons, just the comfort of your visitors.

Static pages save bandwidth and ease the pressure off the servers
I have had complaints from webhosters that their server gets overloaded when I have traffic spikes on non-static pages.

  • ...Love static front pages with wordpress! It cleans the site up so nice.

I also like to add pages instead of posts to give the site a cleaner feel.
