Is Mid-November a bad time to launch my membership?

Hey guys,

I'm just about ready to launch my membership site and I was looking at November 16th as the date. This is a video-based vocal training course that will run 6 months. The price price will be around $25 a month.

I have the membership software, 2-3 months of content pre-recorded and ready, I'm working on the pages right now, and after much research I've decided to use Viddler because of their ability to serve the videos world-wide on any device for a reasonable monthly rate. Amazon's cloud hosting is way too high and S3 isn't working well in other countries for me like Africa.

Anyway, do you guys think this is too close to the holidays? Thanksgiving after all, would be the following week. Do you guys think that would hinder sales? I'm sure I'm over-thinking it, but this is my first product and I'm nervous as heck, lol! A short 5 day course I use to build my list has been very well received though, so I'm hoping for a good reception and I don't want to mess it up launching too close to the holidays (if there is such a thing).

Anxious to hear your replies.
Thanks in advance!

The worst time to launch a product is never.

Seriously, what's the worst that can happen? If it doesn't go so great then do a relaunch in the new year but at least you will have already got SOME people into your course and gained some valuable feedback.

You are so right, man. I should've had it launched months ago. Paralysis Of Analysis is a hard habit to kick! But if I'm being honest with you guys, all I'm really worried about is covering my Viddler fees, lol! The account I need will cost about $100 a month.

Now, at $25 a month even I know it's ridiculous to be worried about getting 4 people. But here I am, nervous as heck! I'm going for it though guys. In HUGE part because of being a member here. I will keep you all posted, and thanks for the encouragement to launch!!

i would seriously consider using amazon s3, iv`e been using it for about a year now and it works great

even when i release new products and wso`s and i get a boat load of traffic watching my videos and downloading my files my monthly bill is still only about $30

my normal amount which i pay monthly is around $2 - $6

          Hey Paul,

I mentioned it earlier but I've been using Amazon S3 to host the videos for a free 5 lesson course I give away for joining my list. It works fine "most" of the time for people state side, but I've had several people in Africa and other countries tell me they couldn't watch the videos. Apparently internet access over there is not very reliable.

I looked into switching to Amazon's cloud-based hosting option but when you go that route the monthly fees jump to $400 plus from everything I've seen.
Viddler promises they can deliver your videos everywhere but china, and on all mobile devices as well.

Try using a non US hosted S3 bucket. You can choose different regions where your bucket is located and that makes things load faster for different parts of the world. Last I checked, a few weeks ago, there were about 7 different regions to choose from.

    sounds good ron

just launch it and don`t look back

if you have enough people interested in it and you have a good following it will go well no matter
    what

i launched my membership site about 3 months ago

it`s great fun, very profitable but does take some tweaking until everything is set up how you want it

    best of luck ron :-)

Launch it when it is ready!

Oh, and Nov is actually a good time.

I bought a course in Nov last year.

I was thinking 6 months into the new year.

I actually think November is a good time for a launch. Many people are in the buying mindset around the holidays and offering them a quality product will get them to think about purchasing for themselves or maybe even someone on their holiday gift list.

Go for the November launch and then do a relaunch of it in the new year, around the end of January/February when people are working out their new years resolutions and what they want to achieve for the year ahead.

      I'm with Will.

You can do a "soft launch" in November at a lower price. This will get you some customer testimonials so that you can do a bigger re-launch in the new year, when everyone's ready to make their New Year resolutions

I TOTALLY understand analysis paralysis! I suffer from this a lot myself.

Justin Stowe is right. Take a different view of it: do a soft launch in Nov. You'll get some great feedback and testimonials and can re-launch in the New Year.

A soft launch is a good way to test. And viewing it as a soft launch instead of an "official" launch really helped me. It took the pressure off and allowed me to keep moving.

        Good luck!

You could launch it tomorrow and it wouldn't make a difference. It is a membership website, not something that is time oriented.

Fantastic advice everyone, thanks. I hadn't heard the term soft launch.

@warriormatt12, what about the links to other people's content at the end of YouTube videos? Does leadplayer handle that too?

@Johnny I didn't know about the other regions on Amazon either, thanks!
