This does sound like a very good opportunity for you, particularly with there not being any competition yet.

If their first line of products is going to be toys, I would start building a niche toy website. Toys are profitable and you would be well ahead by starting now.

If I were you I would start building some popular product niche sites just now while the new Amazon store grows.

There is serious potential for you to dominate as an Amazon affiliate in your county. You don't need to JV, just get started building some niche product review sites.

You can start by creating a review site. I would start with a generic name. Since you are cognizant of your fellow citizens' buying habits, you can go ahead and review the top sellers in each popular category. If you are relying on SEO, I would try the free version of Market Samurai to evaluate the local competition for the items you are targeting. There's more, but that should be enough to get you started.
