Determining the price of a domain

I recently bought a keyword domain name that's based around a lucrative niche. Did helluva lot of research to find it. Found out the keyword actually has over 30 million visitors per month and the competition is 'low'. So it has huge potential. How much would a keyword such as this be worth if I decide to sell it?

Anywhere from $0 to $1,000,000. Without knowing the exact domain name, it isn't possible to even guess where it would fall.

There are millions of keywords that get tons of search volume, but would not make a profitable domain name.

      It's "WhatIsFitness.org".

The domain is worthless. Get a refund if you can. Even the .com would be a tough sell.

you mentioned yourself that it is less competitive and has 3 m visitors per month.....

Maybe you should search for the exact person to sell it....

The price is going to vary depending on the type of buyers that you can find. Your best bet might be to place it on something like goddaddy auctions and see how much it fetches.

A keyword with 30 million searches per month and low competition? Sorry but I strongly suspect that you did something wrong in your research.

I thought it was too good to be true as well... that's what the Google Keyword Tool says. Not sure how accurate it is though...

Since it is a keyword domain (EM), I'm afraid you will be having a bad time either selling it or running in your own..

The exact match search for "what is fitness" is 4,400/month. Still excellent, but in this case useless. You have to consider the reason people search that keyword phrase. They are most likely looking for free information or a definition. I'd much rather have a domain/keyword that has a search volume of 100/month if the searches are from people ready to buy something. Also, the .org makes it a MUCH harder sell (if your intention is to sell the domain).

I see. So how come .org is a much harder sell? And are .com and .net the best ones to sell?

My company has been looking at keyword domain names, I'm not convinced they are worth the expensive costs and I very much doubt they are a search engine panacea what do others think about this?

Worth the "expensive costs"? That's completely subjective. If it brings you one additional customer per month, and the value of one lifetime customer is $___, you do the math. It depends on what a customer is valued to you. There are PLENTY of EMDs available to register for $10. Panacea? No, of course not. Worth the investment? You decide, based on the value of the extra business a EMD can bring (if you use it appropriately).

Thanks Gene what do you mean by EMD?

EMD - Exact Match Domain. Your domain name consists of exactly the keywords you're targeting.

Because .COM is what businesses want to use. The general population will type in .COM by default. If the business doesn't own the .COM, they will lose a ton of traffic and potential business to whoever does own it.

You could build a site on it, throw on some Adsense / Amazon ads and hope for the best. There is only 2,020 sites competing for that keyword so it should be easy (ish) to get ranking.

I don't know how much you could get for it because it's not a must have keyword and it isn't the .com.

Personally I'd turn it into an authority site providing information for people who are looking for information on fitness and try and funnel them into affiliate / adsense ads for revenue.

    Good luck with it

    Jason
