Linking to penalized websites?

I wonder if it can harm my website if I have on it links to some websites that were penalized by Google? (even if I've made these links nofollow)

    Hi Andrej!

It would not hurt your site if you only accidentally linked to a few spammy sites. But if you tend to have linked to several of them, Google will be alarmed and might consider your site spammy also. However, I don't see cases like that in small sites. Basically, it only applies to large sites with a large number of external links that come and go.

Yes, it will do a lot of harm, so don't risk!

Google penalizes entire neighborhoods, networks of sites - if it's the case...

Especially if you have "do follow" links, it will be pretty bad.

I'm saying this from experience... I managed sites that were hit by Google and the penalties brought an entire network of interlinked sites. Although, on some of them we never conducted any "typical SEO" activity, so there was no real reason for downgrading/penalizing... but they were linked to the other sites that got penalized, so the "clean" sites also got penalties.

My advice: don't link to "suspect" sites!

You don't have any harm to website but in the same way didn't get any benefits from backlinks.

No for me. Because the links coming from them we're devalue by Google since it is not indexed.

Worst case scenario: you may even have your website penalized by Google as well for linking to a bad link neighborhood.
