Want To Get Into Site Selling ''NEED HELP''

Hi warriors

I am wanting to get in to building and selling websites I know how to create them customize them and everything else in between.

But the area that I am struggling with is when the site is sold how do I transfer the wordpress files and give domain name to the person who brought it.

If you guy's and girls could give me a step by step walk through of what files I need to give them and how to give them the domain name it would really help me.

Thanks

How do you know how to make a site, and not know what files the buyer would need? Not trying to be rude, but to understand question better.

There are any number of solutions. Of course you have to transfer the domain itself if you are moving it to a new host. If you are keeping the same host it is an easy matter for the host to transfer it from one account to another. Say you are hosting at XYZ Hosting and your buyer has an account with them as well. It is a simple matter to have the site transferred by XYZ Hosting. (Note: some site sellers require the new owner to either have or create an account with their host thereby making it very easy to change ownership of the site).

You mentioned using WordPress. Get a copy of WP Backup Creator or similar software. It will copy all your site files including plugins and then they can be transferred to a new WP instance with the click of a button.

There are other options to moving a site, as well, but this is the quickest and easiest that I know of.

Thanks for you help on the transferring the website very useful.

so if they have a hosting account with same hosting account I am with then the hosting company can transfer it for me.

You will only give to the new site owners the login details of your website, cpanel of your website, and transfer the domain name and hosting to his account. That's what I only know, maybe others know better than me.

This gives you about all the advice that you need. The only issue you might run into is on VERY large sites that have large database files. In this case some of the backup programs will timeout and not create a proper backup. In these cases, I have always just downloaded the database separately and then uploaded it using the Mysql database tool inside of Cpanel.

If you are planning to build and sell sites, why not just set up each one on its own account under a reseller plan and that way you don't need to transfer any files. Good luck!

I sell 2-3 websites per month using wordpress themes. If I HAVE to transfer the files to the clients servers I use WP-backup creator its awesome (I even charge another guy in town $75 ea to move his stuff) But I am in it for the monthly hosting so I prefer to build and give them admin rights and charge a monthly hosting fee

You have just hinted on a very smart way to do business. I can show you how you may be able to sell a few more sites + hosting if you are interested.

What hosting provider are you using? Some are easier than others, but the process isn't difficult once you know how to do it once. Each hosting provider has plenty of resources with step by step instructions for these transfers. Don't let the transfer process scare you away from it!

    Hi guy

Thanks for all your comments and I don't think I am scared of the transfer process I was just unsure of what to do but you guys have been great on helping me with the problem thanks so much.

Also an other good method renting out your site and just getting them to pay the hosting good business model.

And for the reseller account I am going to upgrade to that account when I have more of a budget.

    Thanks again
