Using Amazon Product Descriptions

Hey Everyone,

One of the projects I am currently working is a website in the video games niche (call of duty). I am going to be writing reviews for the games, blogging about them on a regular basis and I would also like to promote Amazon products. Since I would have one page per product (games, consoles, controllers...) I would need to provide a description for each one to explain what the product is to the customer and to benefit my site in SEO terms.

Since I believe it is quite hard to describe some of the products I am promoting, is it OK to copy the descriptions from places such as Amazon, eBay... and edit them slightly?

I am normally against copying any content and I try to write it all myself from scratch.

Thank you in advance,

Joe Crosbie

    This is an interesting question.

Are you talking about the technical descriptions?

If so then I would copy them or get them from the manufacturers website, because technical descriptions are obviously things that you can't just make up in your own words. They have to be exact.

If it's not technical specifications and more about a basic description of the product, then you can "swipe" some of their info and adjust or personalize it in your own style.

However, I don't use Amazon, and if you are promoting through them I would look in their TOS to see if they say anything about this

Hey thanks for your answer, I have been getting really annoyed with Warrior Forum as I could not find this thread any where?

All is good now though, and yes I am talking about the basic description. I will definitely check out the Amazon TOS

    Thanks again

I have had a look on the Amazon affiliate centre and have yet to find any advice.

Hopefully some one here will be able to help

    Hi there,

I think the technical specs you can copy and will be ok, but as for the product descriptions I would re-write them so that I had unique content and could put my own personality on it. I think if you are linking through from your site to Amazon people don't want to read the same stuff.

You could get the descriptions re-written at a site like iWriter or similar.

    Cheers

    Jason

    Thank you very much.

Another thing that is bugging me is the length of my descriptions. How long would you recommend having them?
