The one thing you can do to drive more traffic is to start writing articles about your niche. You can also use paid media like pay per click. Paid ads, if you do it right, can get you a ton of traffic faster then free media.

If you are using CPA network for your site, this will earn you some OK income. Try it out and see how things work out for you.

Not sure how you want to "automate" your site, in what sense, but you can get traffic with the help of SEO, which is a keyword-dependent business model.

You can monetize the traffic with any offer that they might find interesting and helpful, really. You have to understand, though, the mindset of the people coming to your site - which really depends on where they are coming from - whether it be Youtube, a search engine, another blog post linking to your site /whatever/ and whether they have been told where they would land or not.

Where you position the ad on your site is a whole different story. The offer/product itself is one thing but how you present it to your visitors is another. It all has to work together, so for placing the ads I recommend split-testing, as there really isn't a one-fit-all answer to this problem - there never is.

While placing the ads, keep in mind SEO, though, especially the "above-the-fold" area, which should be overly full of ads.
