Hi, maybe you can find WSO on flipping sites. Try to search what are the top niche that sold the most on Flippa. No matter what niche you are trying to sell, if it makes money then people will buy it.

A good thing to do is actually spend some time on Flippa researching what types of websites are selling the best and you should get loads of ideas. Also, don't be afraid to ask website sellers anything that you need to know about their listings. You'll be surprised as what information you can get.

    Good luck!

      I agree.

Also, I've noticed that lately, Flippa increased their tax and websites made just for "flipping" are now harder to sell.

People are looking for established websites.

    • What is the system you have in place for making websites so fast?

Buyers at Flippa look for traffic and revenue at the first place. If your site would have some revenue, or decent traffic, you will be able to sell it there.

Honestly, I don't get the deal with flippa.

If a website is making money then I will never sell it for just 12 month's worth. Maybe for 24-48 month's worth but for no less. It makes more sense to just keep it and let the nearly passive income roll in.

Unless of course it takes several hours a week to maintain it in which case you need to be 100% upfront with the buyer including the traffic costs you incur to buy all that traffic which made the big bucks.

There are many reasons why people sell their established businesses (and websites alike), few of them being:

      * the vast majority of websites are NOT passive (contrary to what some sellers believe / want the buyers to believe

      * people often need a lump sum of cash for various reason, leading them to selling their assets, as opposed to keeping them and keeping to cash in monthly profits

      * there is ALWAYS a certain risk involved in any type of business/website. Selling the business is one way of mitigating this risk.

Also - a 2-3 year multiple is not at all unheard of in this industry. In fact, 2 years + is a standard for websites that are truly passive (less than 1% of sites listed on Flippa), have decent revenue history and don't come with big risks of traffic/revenue tanking any time soon.

And to answer OP's question - as some people have said above, the only thing website buyers look for is revenue. As long as your website is generating revenue month to month and the niche isn't dodgy you will find a buyer for it regardless of what the niche is or what the domain name is.

To make money on Flippa you're going to need real value. Look through the listings to see what people are paying for. Good luck!

Great post Thomas. To add my 2 cents: If you look at recent Google updates, some websites that were earning their owners a lot of money every month, suddenly lost their rankings. Consequence? If you website depended on Google traffic only, you've lost your future income over night. This is the main reason some websites aren't worth more than 12-month income - the risk is too high. But, if your website has multiple sources of traffic (direct, referral, email, affiliates, ...), you will sell it for a lot more than just 12 month income.

It depends on a lot of things. Some guy chucked up a site on dancing hamsters and got $11K for it. Others use curated content. What sites sell for the most are high traffic sites that have some social interaction from what I have gathered as there are more ways to monetize the traffic and send it back to the site. Small sites like howtogetridofhemorrhoids sell cheap. As sugested above have a look on flippa and see what is selling at what price

The websites that do have have an old domain do not sell easily. Also they have to have a good reputation

Go to Flippa and click the "Most Active" tab. I am sure you will get a clear picture of what people are looking to purchase.

    Hope it helps

This is just my experience, it might not be typical, I don't know.
But, over the last few years Flippa has gone way down in terms of a place to sell sites of value. Good quality sites with unique content used to go for a fair asking price, now they go for well below minimum wage if you average the time put into sites on an hourly basis. In short, I think the worldwide competition has hurt the quality providers.
