What route did you go with IM

I got bit with the Internet Marketing bug about 8 years ago. I know the typical cycle for IMers is buying a bunch of junk, trying out affiliate marketing, realizing that you need to create your own product, building a list, continuing to up-sell affiliate products etc...etc.

I kind of took a different route starting out. I bought a niche website for $xxx. Worked it for a year, got kind of lucky and was able to sell it for #xx,xxx. That really got me hooked and I pretty much continued on the buying/flipping route for my main stay, developed a few niche retail sites on my own, and also provided online marketing services for offline businesses as some cash on the side.

Anyone else care to share their story in how they started out and where they found their success?

I start with SEO & offline and saw some pretty good results there, but really wanted to shift the business online for the sake of mobility. I've always wanted to bring my business along with me wherever I go.

So started to dabble with CPA and saw some success there and I'm continuing with that. It has taught me many fundamentals with regards to internet marketing. Good thing is I can see results immediately (both positive and negative) and make tweaks along the way. Some projects take you months to figure if they work or not.

In a nutshell: I discovered a market, wrote an ebook, set up a pay per click marketing campaign and started selling it for £57 from day one! I then upsold my buyers complimentary products - dvds, reports, seminars.

In other words, I got started by publishing Niche information products. I also currently do Business 2 Business offline consulting and private coaching for IM beginners.

I haven't got that far, yet: still too busy enjoying all the advantages affiliates have that vendors don't have. (Here are just ten of them).

I started off by writing articles for marketers, but haven't done that for a long time, now.

I bought a website with the promise of training. The training was non existent and I lost money not made money as promised. You live and learn I suppose.

Dabbled with Adsense for a bit and am now building a list and making money from Clickbank.

Any advice I can give is find what works for you and grow it. Don't jump from one idea to another. Put the time in and you will succeed. Finally don't rely solely on Google rankings for income. If you get slapped your income gets slashed.
