Hi all
First of all i'm talking about site's ads nor Adsense or Amazone ( advertisements that belongs to the own sites like in WF )
I know it's a general question , but we need to share about what motivates the visitor to click on the ads (
Is it the font and what is the good size ?ordinary or handwriting?
Is it the color and what is the best color combination?
Is it the style and what is the appropriate style plain or with board ?

  • I think what you mention above will capture the persons attention and get them to look at the ad, but then it will come down to the headline or words used that will actually get the person to click on the ad.

So if I were you, I would focus first on split-testing your ad text to see which gets the most clicks, and then play around with things like color combinations, and different fonts to see if those things can improve an already good ad.

    • You'll just need to test...

Bright, vivid colours work very well... but don't go overboard.

Strong call to action phrases... nice bold block font.

      Use very eye catching pics...

Have a look at what your competition is doing.
  • Banners allow some sort of text or description of the ad in them. Make sure to include a keyword in it. This can bring some difference to CTR.
  • Movement definitely helps...a persons eyes are drawn to movement like a T-Rex.

  • Many affiliate programs allow you to create your own banners. Hence there is every opportunity for you to be creative and innovative when making them.

    • I think people see in advertisement that they see in a website design.a very good example is smashingmagazine.com that helps its advertisers with designing the ads as well. They are well placed, good to look at,do not feel cheap and of course have a great call to actions.
  • Hi IMMaster...

Try researching the "Pain Points" of your target customer. Blend some call-to-action terms with your ad. Works well!

  • People click ads that are relative to their own interest.

This involves identifying your target market, creating ads that are of interest to the target market, a single statement that compels them to click the ads, and finally placing your ads in front of your target market.

Ultimately, the ad is the first step of a sales funnel.

  • There are lots of tips and tricks for creating ads. One famous internet marketeer recommends placing borders around your 125x125 ads which he claims are the most effective for him.

The truth is that different ads work in different ways and testing is the only real way to establish what it best.

(One suggestion - if you are advertising on specific sites, design specific ads to look like the editorial / images of those sites - you can even take this one step further with the copy in the ad... along the lines of here's a special offer for site 'x')

Let's make it simple and practical

  • Movement, as thebitbot says, definitely catches the viewer's eyes... and in addition to that you can also test adding "shock value" to your ads. Recently I saw a 250 x 300 banner promoting an insurance offer that had an animation of a man clutching his chest and almost passing out. When I saw that I thought, "Man! people are having heart attacks over this!". So, I clicked the ad to find out more

    • Excellent you added something very important that we keep our words attarctive and eye catchy .
We want at the end to put some rules or specifications for the Good banner's Ad
  • Did you see Sony Cybershot recent ad campaign ?

Thats what catchy images is all about
  • An unusual border.... maybe ripped or torn style. There is a cheap piece of software that is meant for FB and POF advertising that works well but the name of it escapes me. About $20 I think. May work for larger ads too.
