Don't use free websites when looking for freelancers

I am talking about the likes of easyoutsource.com and other freelance sites that does not require payment (refundable or not). I am extremely disappointed. You post a job, people are hitting the "apply button" even without reading the ad content. For almost a hundred applicants, you are lucky to get 2 to 5 serious workers. Or you can find yourself left with nothing when someone accepted the job you are offering and then disappear without saying anything.

I believe the big factor is that, the website is free and people don't have any pressure so they can do whatever they want. Other are just high school students who thinks they can do the job by hitting the button..... Stay away from that site. Outsource from paid freelance sites where you can find committed and serious people...

Just a reminder from almost a year of experience dealing with easyoutsource.com and finally I can't take it anymore....

I got some serious workers last year (3 of them) and they are still with me until now. The problem is this year. I don't know what happened but there are a lot of people coming from Southern Philippines who seems knows nothing and storming the site and hitting the "apply button" but when you ask them if they can do the job, they just ignore you... or worst send you a copied article as sample...

I got that 3 good people after going through dozens of useless people whom I wasted time sending emails asking for samples and screening them, etc...

But it is these places where you can find high quality workers at cheap rates. So if you are willing to make the effort here then you can make a killing.

Of course putting full time effort only for content only makes sense for content teams.

You need to train them a lot before you can be satisfied with the output and for a fast-paced business like mine, I don't have time to do that anymore. I can get quality writers from other paid sites without losing too much time in training.

Whenever I post a job at one of those sites in the posting I require that all applicants must put a particular phrase in the subject line. If that phrase is not there it is deleted immediately. I have had days where there are 30 or forty responses and only 3 with the correct subject line.

Doing this tells me who can follow directions as well as who is actually reading my ad

I've been with getafreelancer.com since 2007 and with odesk since 2010. But I prefer elance for some more positive reasons. Both former sites I mentioned screwed my credit card and I won't be using them anymore...

I have been earning my lively hood through freelacning for more than 3 years now.And I have learned that the best networks ever are odesk.com,freelancer.com and elance.com!!! I suggest you do not go anywhere expect for these 3! Its also a good idea to check the PR of a freelance before using it.

Odesk and Vworker are great places to look for freelancers. Vworker has a high fee though.

That doesn't apply for all free freelancing sites. Sites like odesk don't have sign up fee and yet there are loyal and serious contractors on there.
