Website Stats Tracking - (seriously, though)

Working on my brick-and-mortal business and working on my online business now, I've realized I should be tracking hits, subscriptions, ranking for important keywords, and other key metrics.

Are most sophisticated internet marketers looking at these metrics in an excel sheet updated daily, weekly, etc...?

How do you go about it / is there anywhere to learn?

Thanks a ton! Looking forward to getting math-nerdy,

Sincerely,
-Daniel

There are a lot of programs out there that can help you track, just do a Google search. There's Google Analytics, HitSniffer, iTrackPro, etc...

I use google analytics but also if you have a good website builder with a good stats back office, that is a great way to know where your traffic is coming from.

I use Googles and Bing's free softwares on their website:
Webmaster tools / Analytics and Bing Business Portal

These tools work great for me because it provides the reports that I need to look at in order to make and potential website changes.

I use Google Analytics for my sites which keeps track of most metrics and plots it out for you. No need to keep that excel spread sheet unless you are comparing sites. On the other hand, if you don't want Google to have their hands in your business you should look at another analytics program.

As others have said, Google analytics should be more than enough for you. There's reports that you can run, you can see where traffic is coming from, how long people are staying etc.

Check it out, I think you'll like it.

Statcounter is good. Just don't become a stats junkie. The only stat that really matters in terms of site performance is $ per pageview.
