Making Money Online: Working Hard and Not Seeing Results?

Here is something to help motivate newbies.

It can be quite discouraging to work hard on something and get nothing from it. You find yourself wondering if it was all just a big waste of time. Well, I have some good news for you. EVERYONE who makes money online has gone through the same thing. I have compiled a list of useful tips which will help you improve your business and help bring in some results.

1. Forget about short term results

Stop expecting to see a huge influx in earnings within the next couple of days. If you continue to think that you are going to make a lot of money in a short amount of time you are just setting yourself up to be disappointed. Forget about the results and just focus on the work at hand.

2. Manage your time

When it comes to building a business it is extremely important that you learn how to manage your time effectively. In other words, you need to dedicate a certain amount of time each day to improving your business. If you work all day on improving your business you will feel stressed and discouraged because you won’t see any instant results. I recommend to spend a minimum of 2-3 hours a day working on improving your business idea. Take breaks, take it easy, don’t let yourself get too excited about something that may or may not work out. Improve your project on a daily basis and in a year or two you will have all the aspects of your business idea figured out and in place.

3. Think outside the box

Take a break from your work to just sit back and think about what you could do to improve your business idea and bring in some clients. It is also recommended to get third-party opinions on your idea. Sign up to popular forums and ask questions regarding your ideas and get opinions. You should always be thinking of ways to improve your idea – aspects that need improvement, etc.

Setting up a business online is not as easy as you might think. It is recommended to set aside a budget to invest in advertising and other campaigns to help find clients for your service or products. Either way, do not give up on your idea. Think of your business idea as a hobby and soon enough clients will start coming in and you will be making a lot of money.

If anyone has any more tips feel free to share.

Cheers!

    Good post Tim.

One point I will really stress on is the importance of TIME. All too often my colleagues, partners and students spend too much personal time on a seeing a project through to completion. They don't REALLY work hard, but think they do because of the time they've put in.

It's very important that newbies learn to manage their time effectively.

Spend time working ON your business, rather than IN your business!

If you can outsource the menial, long and boring tasks by INVESTING little money, then do it. That way you won't feel as if you're working too hard and drained. That way, when something doesn't work, you have enough energy to move on to the next project.

    God bless!

Nice post. I am a newbie and I was, like all of the newbies i think, overwhelmed with great stories of success and loads of money. Now I am little bit more realistic. I am working on my first ebook and trying to figure out what kind of blogs to start. I hope that my book will be out till january 2013. Its almost finished. But I need to do editing, prepare a blog for it, find affiliates, prepare Amazon page... lots of things to do but I am not discouraged. One problem is that I am lacking time since I work 9-5.
Thanks for great inspirational eye opening post.

Good post! and really motivating. I feel like I haven't really made so much in IM but I keep trying because it is my passion. I have had a site that was getting 100 uniques in a day but got deranked because of the emd update. I have now created a amazon review site and outsourcing the content and posting 1 post a day. I have almost 30 post so far but no organic google traffic yet. I hope to see results in the next month maybe. I am just scared that I will not get any results and never make it!

No Tim, Thank you for the positive post! It's very easy to get stressed when you're going at it 110% and not seeing the results as quickly but one thing I've learned is even though might not be able to see it at first what you put in is what you get out!

So it's great to rest and give yourself time to relax but don't get lazy or distracted keep pushing forward!

The content of this post is great. Very motivational. I believe a lot of people have serious problem with managing their time especially for those who are have 9-5 job.

Timbonitus, no offence but next time please give credit when you are sharing someone else's content. You wouldn't want others to treat you the same right?

Thanks Nio93 for pointing this out.

The main problem is that most people think they work hard, where in reality they just work LONG on irrelevant and easy tasks.

Show me a hardworking online marketer, and I show you a person who makes at least 5 figures a month.

The question is, how do you personally define hard work? For me, hard work is the habit of seeking for new tasks that are at my current potential level.

Most people spent their time on tasks that will never have the potential to bank money, and they only reasons why they focus on easy tasks is because they want to avoid working on difficult tasks. That´s the mindset of a loser.

Once you stopped taking on new challenges, you know that you are not even close to working hard.

That´s why coaching is not effective for most people who are not willing to work hard.

Seek a way around the hard work, and you found the way back to your job!

Write out a set of long term and short term goals for your business. Make your goals specific, yet attainable. Then write out a set of short term tasks every day or week depending if you are full or part time. These tasks should be in line for you to reach your goals. When you complete a task, cross it off the list. Make it your mission to complete all of your tasks on time.

Make sure to reserve time for learning new things but stay away from buying too many shiny new info products.

The biggest reason people fail online is because they don't treat it like a business. Successful businesses need a business plan. Without a plan, you only have a hobby and hobbies don't make money, they cost money.

Yes when I first got into internet marketing 4 years ago, I got sucked into thinking that you can get rich quick. Later on after wasting tons of money on useless products, I was able to see that it does take time to consistently market my website, It takes time management to do this around my day job schedule, and finally I had to realize that I cannot just sell someone elses product alone, but I needed to prove to my people that the product works and that it can work for them by personalizing the product to me. I had to think outside the box on that part.

I also found that injecting my personality and my personal gifts were golden too. What are you good at? If you don't know, ask someone who knows you better than you know yourself. You might be surprised at their answer. Find a way to channel your strengths online or offline.

I didn't say investments I said results. Don't expect to make a thousands of $$ within the first few days of working as a internet marketer. It will take time to get your internet marketing career up and running - probably a couple years. But the sooner you start the sooner you will reach your goal.

        Good thread, timbonitus

I'll just add to your 1st point and say you should focus on realistic short term results.

For example...(and by the way, RemyLango, I do make money from the internet..sometimes alot and sometimes a little...)..when I made a goal to make $1,000 per month on ebay, based on my sister in law's ebay business, I had to find a product that was in a hot market and that would give me a sufficient profit margin.

I didn't go in thinking I would make $1,000 my first month because at that time, I was a newbie selling on ebay, but I knew I could make $100 this week, $230 the next, and so on.

I knew I had to go through the experience of bad judgment calls sometimes and good judgement calls at other times. This is what leads to success.

Before I knew it, I was having $800 days, $550 days, and even $1,200 plus days on ebay..that's net profit in my pocket.

So, pay attention to the short term (realistically), because that's what builds the long term.

        eric w

Nice post. Internet is test and track nothing else. How perfectly you can do this is what you can achieve. To do this perfectly you need knowledge and skills with the help of using trending tools. You can get these tools by connecting with successful internet marketer. If you want to ignore Successful marketers its ok but you may waste plent money and time.

When you are someone new online who does have a website and you are working your behind off for days and weeks and not seeing any results, this will tell you that it is impossible to make any money online.

Working hard is not enough to make it. You have to work smart.

Like Tony Robbins said in one of his videos on YouTube.

You are just 2 millimeters off.

Which means that if you take other actions and test things out, you are very close to making things work out, getting more traffic, and making more sales.

I particularly like the advice about 'thinking outside the box' - just do what you think is right - there are so many ways to go about making your online business work - some people "get it" straight away, others take longer more still don't start off with what is comfortable for them

I for one am just starting to see some "proper' results coming through (and my ambitions aren't "quit your day job" high, rather pay for some extras type expectations)....

Good thread here, and I'd like to add that people get "burnt out" too quickly...I guess this is part of time management...but consider that you need to pace yourself with this stuff. Some people get "bit by the bug" and stay up all hours of the night trying to learn IM...and some can get away with that...but most can't.

Here's my advice: Wake up 1 or 2 hours earlier than you usually do 3-5 days a week. This is your time to soak in knowledge and take action. Also consider taking one hour before bed, and dedicating that to learning internet marketing.

Most people just let their brains vegetate by watching TV before bed...you can be different and get your online income stream started.

BUT...do not get so excited that you neglect your family/friends. Even after years of success....I have to check myself on this sometimes....before...well...my wife gets mad at me. lol

      Excellent post in this thread!

I must add that when I was getting started years ago, I gave up on a few hours a sleep a night and found that even though I was getting less than normal, my motivation to succeed drove me WAY past the midday fatigue I would feel from time to time.

A good once a week nap seemed to put things back in order as well!

I also found that by shifting my TV watching time to my Internet Marketing activities, I got a lot of projects completed.

Start tracking where you spend your time typically and you will be amazed by the large amounts of time that you truly have to work with when you put the blinders on and focus on the task at hand!

When you are working online, in the beginning and more than 90% of the time you don't see results that you like or expect. As you learn more about IM, you learn from mistakea and improve, you get different ideas that you don't know originally then you apply what you learn on IM and that's the time the results get better.

Great post. Setting up a business is really not easy and many people who have just joined internet marketing get so pumped up with other people's success that they expect to earn a lot of money in the short term and when they don't see results a lot of them get frustrated and quit

Yeah the key is to just keep working passively on it until you can work full time. You should start off with a real job and spend the money you save to invest in your online business until you are earning a considerable amount from IM and then you can quit your day job.

    Its essential in internet marketing.

Well I'm sure they won't want to share that kind of information for free...

Or maybe they will if they are feeling particularly nice today.

Either way, most people who make big bucks from internet marketing follow the same basic plan it's just a matter of taking action and focusing.
