Both versions would not be effected if your computer crashed because the website isnt actually on your computer, but rather being hosted elsewhere. You should use wordpress.org if you are looking to make money from your site. You dont really need technical skills... it is easy to set up wordpress.org on any cpanel hosting, which really makes it self explanatory.

I prefer Hosting on My own domains so it has to be org
Most cPanels will have the ability to auto install
so for me its a no brainer

The choice depends on what type of website you want to make.

As for the issue of crashing, it won't matter if you just use wordpress.com

But if you host the site on your own, then a computer that crashes frequently will be your biggest problem because when it does, it's going to take your whole website with it.

If you can't use .org for wordpress because you don't have any technical skills you can use .com.It will not matter on what type of wordpress site you have.

But I prefer you should start learning some technical skills so you can benefit .org because the plugins are very helpful for a wordpress site especially if you are into marketing. Installation is also free.

No worries if your laptop might crash. You can still get a copy of your website.

I hope this solves your issue and good luck in designing your wordpress site!

Well, no. Not if the OP wants to use the site directly for making money.

Wordpress.com will shut you down for things like affiliate links and commercial blogs.

This is why you should buy your own hosting and just borrow their software.

Do you think anyone has a clue what they're doing when they install their first site? Heck no, lol. I fumbled through it and had to install a few times before I "got it."

It's actually a lot easier than it was 5 years ago.

        ******s.

How many beginners do you know, Matt, that host their sites on their own server? jipolis - same thing. How many of your sites are hosted on your laptop? Have either of you used Wordpress?

First - the difference between Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org

Wordpress.com is a website where you can set up your own blog. It's web address will be www.myblog.wordpress.com. The Wordpress software is already installed, but the site belongs to wordpress.com not to you. You can't use it for commercial purposes. If Wordpress.com find you are using one of their blogs to sell stuff your site will be removed.

Wordpress.org just supply you with the Wordpress software. They don't host websites.

        Second - Using Wordpress software
To use the Wordpress software on your own site you will need a domain name and some web hosting to host the content. Many people here use namecheap.com to register a domain name and hostgator.com to host the content.

Hostgator (and many other hosts) offer automatic installation of the Wordpress software. Your site and all its content live on the Hostgator (or other host's) server. If your computer crashes or dies your website is not affected as all its content is stored online.

Having said that, it is always advisable to keep a backup copy of your site on your own machine in case something happens to the online version.

Setting up a website is something I liken to entering shark infested waters. The hackers are out to get you. Every day websites are hacked, infected or just crash. Backups are a must.

I will suggest you to use wordpress.com now. When you will be much familiar you can move your site to your own domain or you can do a domain mapping ( a paid upgrade )

I am sorry for the technical terms but using wordpress.com will help you to make your life easy. Though there is not a lot of plugin but surely it has enough option to decorate your site.

Go with hosting your own domain. Every quality hosting service has an easy-to-install service for Wordpress, so it's not a hassle to get everything up.

The faster you get your hands dirty, the faster you will make mistakes... the faster you will make mistakes, the faster you will succeed.

Oh, and yeah... most hosting services allow you to back-up your entire database on their servers. No worries there!

I think you should use .org because .com would not allow commercial blogs and things like affiliate networks.

Thanks for all the advice ill stick with .org to learn more how to use it before i build my site. What is the best domain registrar is it NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO-NO- or name cheap?, or anything. And the best webhosting that are cheap?. Hostgator is so much out of my budget.

Namecheap is a good option. So is name. Hostgator support is brilliant. One of my friends uses ipage. You can check out their website for pricing to see if its within your budget. They have a good support as well.
