Trying to build some momentum on this one.

I started up a website on october the 7th (actually the 2nd but didnt make it public news till the 7th) in which to date i have 310 unique visitors with 869 visits. Marketing has been mostly through facebook, with a bit of twitter (haven't mastered that one yet). The figures ar enot exactly what I expected but not too bad either.
My issue is i'm running a contest on the site and i get a number of questions regarding the contest but not many entries. It is free to enter and there are 8 cash prizes totalling $1000. To enter the contest you have to do some work because of the niche but it is something most enthusiast of the game could do if they really wanted, but so far i only got 2 entries.
How do i get those views into more contestants?
All i really need right now is more people to participate. I'm basically giving away the money as part of a test. The site is in spanish and im using it as a testing machine for the english version.
Also, should i start building the list right away or do i wait till i get a higher numbe rof uniques/visits? once i get at least 8 entries a voting system is introduced to decide the winners so i expect traffic to ramp up a bit once that happens.
