How to Make More Money - It's What I Did...

We are getting close to the end of the year now and when that happens I usually start to think about what I can improve in my business in the new year. I'm sure a lot of you are also starting to think about your goals for next year.

I'm not going to give you a long drawn out background story but I will tell you this. I played around on the Internet for about 7 years before I started making any REAL money. I use the word 'play' because that's what it was. At the time I actually thought I was making progress and working hard but when I look back at things now, I really did waste a whole lot of time.

... and nothing changed for about 7 years.

It wasn't until a few years ago when I walked out of my job that things changed. Most people wait until they are making money before they quit their job. I was lucky at the time in that I don't have any kids or mortgage to pay or anything like that -- no responsibilities. So I was able to just get up and walk out the door. I definitely don't recommend others do that and it's not what I am telling you to do.

But the day I walked out of my job was the first day I started to take IM seriously. All of a sudden it wasn't something that might work and if it did, great. It had now become something that HAD to work. The day I got home from quitting I had a totally different perspective on things. I stopped playing around and I started looking at what skills I had and how I could monetize them right away. The first thing I did to get money flowing in was to offer services such as voiceovers and video creation. It then built from there.

I literally made more money over the next 7 days than I had ever made in the previous 7 years online... and it wasn't really that hard. The reality is I could have done those exact same things years before but the need had just never been there.

The moral of this story is that often we don't take the action we really need to take until it is forced upon us. Just like the husband that tries to change ONLY when his wife threatens to leave. It's always easier to just cruise along and do the same thing over and over. But doing the same thing over and over will only ever bring you the same old results.

So here's what I suggest... and this is something I am doing also.

Imagine you woke up tomorrow morning and all your online assets were gone (heck, it can actually happen). Your websites, your products, whatever else you currently have that is making you money online right now. All of it... GONE. You can also take this one step further by refusing to allow yourself access to any of your regular online income for the next 2 weeks.

What would you do?

How would you go about making money as fast as possible starting from scratch? Chances are there are a number of things you have in mind and could do successfully but you just haven't done them yet because the need has never been there. When you are forced to take action you'd be amazed at how much progress you can make in a really short period of time and how little attention you will pay to all the other stuff going on in IM that isn't actually helping your progress.

Gary Halbert proposed the same question. He called it "Gun To The Head Marketing". Made a financial breakthrough also when he started to think this way.

Very true... That's what happened when I made $11,187 in 7 days. I worked hard as I had to make it happen, and it did really work out. It's easier to be successful when your back is against the wall...

  • Hi WillR,

In your case, it was you who decided to change the direction of your life. It's great to know everything's working out for you just fine. Congratulations! In my case:

Someone else, a complete stranger, decided to change the direction of, not just my life, but the lives of those whom I love the most in this world, Cherry, my wife and Dandan, my daughter.

This stranger gunned me down, twice last Nov 2003, leaving me totally blind, permanently...

You can watch the video that's linked by my sig below for a full account of how I went from a totally blind, unemployed 23-year old guy living in a third world country with a wife and daughter and a 50-year old mother and two sisters to fend for, to a freelancer then an owner of a B2B company with corporate clients in North America, the EU and Asia and now a company with a corporate department, a non-corporate department, a per-order department and more than 200 inhouse employees, individual subcontractors and subcontractor group partners combined. The video was produced by the Asia Pacific Development Center on Disability of the United Nations, which they give away in conferences and workshops about ICT and inclusive business as well as gainful employment opportunities for people with disabilities around the world. It was uploaded by a good friend, Thomas Ng, owner of Genashtim and former Asia Pacific CEO (for more than 25 years) of Asea Brown Boveri, the world's largest power engineering firm. He's my co-board member in DigiBridge, a non-profit organization that looks after the welfare of people with disabilities in a wide variety of areas in Asia, along with Guy Russo, former Asia Pacific CEO of McDonald's and now CEO of KMart Australia...

      Marx,

Very inspirational story. When life throws you lemons, make lemonade. That's exactly what you've done and yourself and your family should be very proud of what you've accomplished. It's a lot for someone who has not gone through your dramas to accomplish, but add that in and it makes it even more of an accomplishment.

      Thanks for sharing.

Im sorry to hear about the hardships you and your family have been through, but that's a truly phenomenal story. Wish you all the best.
