Is domain investment still good in 2012 if you have max $500 to invest?

Hi,

I have read all the big money making stories of big domains ...1 letter ..2 letter .. 3 letter now 4 letter LLLL CVCV etc.

But as of today in 2012 is domain investment still a good investment? also when there is a budget constrain and you cannot invest $XXXX in good domain.

If the domain investment is still valid then here are my few questions...

How to determine if domain is good investment (most good domains are too expensive).
best way to sell domains ( tried digitalpoint ...flippa with less success )

Any thoughts and insights from experienced warriors ... thanks in advance

Domain investment is for passive returns over a long term.

Domain flipping is for short term sales.

My top 2 domains, each of which I paid $10 for because I bought them before I knew about coupon codes, bring in money for me every single month. One brings in $30 or so on complete auto-pilot...I might make a post each month there. The other I hardly even think about and it brings in $1000-$2000 per month.

Not too bad for $10 investments, huh?

$1000-$2000 is good money is it from from adsense? is it a blog or some product?

He is talking of domains, not websites.

One of our clients, who has been ordering articles from us for almost 6 months now, told me that he is using Google Keywords tool when looking for good domain names to invest with. I think that's a good strategy. By using a keyword tool, you'll see the in-demand keywords and all you have to do is to combine those words or long-tailed keywords until you come up with a domain name. Then, check if it's still available.
