I been searching youtube videos and searching google but i couldn't find good tutorials how to create a custom wordpress site not a wordpress blog. I want to create a site of my own i don't want to outsourse it because of budget and of course i can easily modify it on my own. But where could i find it? I see alot of them on you tube but the videos should need a hosting before create a site.I don't even know how to install wordpress .org properly to practice. I don't want to pay for hosting because i am just practicing. I want to learn coding, good plugins, how to put join button etc... I just wanted to learn.

You can search in Warrior forum itself and you will find people shared free wordpress tutorials.

Like you kind of mentioned...your best bet is to follow tutorials and mess with it along the way. Just reading/watching tutorials without actually doing it, unless you have knowledge about it already, will not be of much benefit.

I recommend you look for a free host that supports Wordpress. Just googling "free hosting for wordpress" turns up some results. Try and find a host that you can access via FTP so you can fully control everything. For example, Wordpress.com does not allow FTP and they control quite a bit of what you can and can't do. You need full control to really learn.

But once you find a host, then start following along with the tutorials.

Ha I like how you express your frustration on the page.

Ok girl, here is how you do it in a nutshell. I'm assuming you already have hosting, like hostgator, and so you log into your cpanel (www.domain.com/cpanel) and then scroll down to software, and choose Fantastico. Click on that, and you will install wordpress onto your domain.

Tired of the grind? Wait. PM me to see a better way.

Why recommend using Fantastico when that is NOT a secure installation? I can't understand why people keep teaching to use a software like that to install WordPress.

It seems not. "I don't want to pay for hosting" suggests not, anyway, to me?

    Have you tried at Freehostia.com?

That's free hosting, and I think it has one-click Wordpress installation through its Hepsia CP. It's not going to get much easier than that ...

They're free only up to a point; reach a memory or bandwidth limit, you get the 404 treatment until you buy an upgrade.

Speaking from experience, I'd recommend bytehost. It works well, no ads, plenty of bandwidth /memory, no ads or fakeouts with services they "have" but don't "actually work." I have tried a number of free hosts, and researched more. Bytehost is right up at the top for actually getting something you can use.

OP, word of advice: from your Wordpress dashboard, go to Tools>>Export>>All Content>>Download Export File. Do this backup daily. Free hosting can disappear overnight, and you will be left holding only your own backups.

Sure, but it's ok for someone to play around and learn on?

I couldn't agree more. I've recommended it myself, in about 100 posts here. However, it doesn't have one-click Wordpress installation available, which ruled it out in this context.

Oh, you're right! Good catch. Hey, how the heck did I do it then? Now I'm really mystified!

By the way, Freehostia doesn't activate Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) on free hosts. I didn't know the significance of this, but it turns out it means you won't get any email functionality, autoforwarding, etc.

Email is another thing the free hosts commonly disable. If you don't realize it going in, you can waste a lot of time looking for the problem!

cpanel is your control panel for a hosting account.

fantastico is an install manager within cpanel, it is what you would use to install wordpress on your hosting account.

No you don't need hosting. You can install Wordpress on your computer although from the questions you are asking.....

Thanks for posting this. I have a couple of websites up, but I wanted a refresher course to see what I missed in my hit-or-miss learning. These look like just the thing I've been searching for.

Well you can create a Wordpress blog at wordpress.com or you can buy hosting and a domain and click on Fantastico and set up a Wordpress blog on your own domain. For Wordpress, that's it. That's the options you have.

Personally, I would never put any time or energy into a third party site (wordpress.com). The blogs you build there are purely for non-commercial purposes and they will shut you down if you're commercial.

You can skip WP. There are plenty of places to practice, you just will have to learn to use the technology they offer. WP doesn't automatically translate into the best or only thing out there.

Here, go make as many practice sites as you want:
    MySafeMEDIA - Create A [FREE WEBSITE / BLOG] Pictures/Videos/MP3/Forms +more

These are template based so eventually when you are done testing or learning you may want to look for a nice HTML/CSS template that looks the way you wish it to look and then it can be imported for you.

If you only want to practice wordpress, local server is the way to go. And it's all free.

What is a local server? local server is a setup than can make your personal computer works like a server environment where you can install Wordpress.

If you use windows as operating system, try easyphp, this software will "build" a local server for you, it's a free software:
    www.easyphp.org

I found that is the easiest local server software to install. If you use mac, then you have to research what is the best local sever software for it, I don't have any experience with mac.

      Ilynreal,

I would NEVER use Fantastico to install the WP Script. It adds to much additional coding and it's not as secure.

It's SO easy to install WordPress

Follow the link below for easy installation of WP using your FTP program.
If you don't have an FTP program yet... I HIGHLY suggest using Filezilla.
Get your free FTP program here:

FileZilla - The free FTP solution

Then go here - WordPress › Blog Tool, Publishing Platform, and CMS - download the actual current WP Script. (Version 3.4.2)

Unzip the file on your computer and watch the video below.

      http://affiliateswin.net/WP-Install-...all-manual.mp4

Follow the instructions to make your blog more secure by using special codes.

I can understand not wanting to spend money, however, for 4.95 a month, you will have your OWN webhost (Hostgator/NameCheap/etc...) and you can learn and play to your hearts content.

      Best of luck.

      Allen

P.S. In the video there is a box with a check mark in it. I would UNCHECK it so that the search engines DO NOT spider your site until it is READY. If you don't change the privacy aspect of your site, everytime you do something to it, the search engines will be notified, and this could actually hurt your site because nothing irritates a BOT like spidering a "WORK IN PROGRESS" SITE. It's not that hard. I think you can learn in 1-2 weeks. Hosting is generally paid per year. There are some very cheap hosting companies and you'll need a domain as well. You could do it from max 50 $/year per total.

The best way to learn is to install it on your own site. Yes, a hosted site with original registered domain.

You should perhaps download a template and modify it. Meanwhile you can post questions, comments on forums and you will most probably receive help.
