A Simple Tip To Keep Visitors On Your Site Longer

If you've been noticing that people just aren't staying on your sites for very long, here's a simple tip you can start implementing (you may already be doing it) that will help people stay on your site longer. Interlink your posts/pages!

I'm not talking about just having related posts at the bottom of your posts either. Within your actual blog posts, have links to other posts on your site. For example, if you have a post about Wordpress, you could do something like this:

Wordpress is a very popular Content Management System (CMS)
(you would link to an old article about CMS's on your site) that makes it possible for anyone to get started blogging. Last week, I did a write up on how to install wordpress, (link to your tutorial on how to install wordpress) that should really help you get started. But today, I want to talk about why I love Wordpress so much.............

One of the reasons Wordpress is so great is because of the wide range of plugins available. Check out this post on the must have Wordpress plugins for any blog (link to your post aboug great Wordpress plugins).....

That way, while people are reading your articles, they can click a link to another article and ultimately stay on your site for a lot longer. I've spent a lot of time on blogs because within every post, there are links to other related posts that I'm interested in. It's also what a lot of people do in their YouTube videos.

I know this is nothing new, but soooooo many people aren't making use of this simple method so I figured I'd put it out there again. It's definitely something that you should be taking advantage of and has helped some of my sites out a lot.

Very good tip, nothing sneaky, users get what they want, and you get helped reducing the bounce rate. Video and graphical stuff help too. Some users understandably don't have the attention span. Also we have to consider not all users share the same language. The better you get to know your visitors, the easier to find solutions to keep them on that site, and start clicking those Ads and promo's

Yes, I totally have to agree here. I hate reading articles that are all text. Right now infographics are a hot item, and who doesn't like watching videos?

Yeah, infographics work like a charm to keep the reader's attention. It isn't even needed to create ones but just publish others' infographics.

That is a great tip. I have done this in the past and it works.

If you give people great content and lots of it, they will stay on your site longer to read.

Same thing with sending articles to your email newsletter subscribers. The more free content you give them, the more will stay on your list and open your emails.

It works and you should be doing it to get a good inner interlinking as well. It's good for SEO and for your readers, just make sure that the content that you interlink is relevant.

That s some common sense, but thanks for pointing it out.

Now that you say it, I see that on most of high traffic blogs and click on them and open on new tab, so it must be a good strategy.

Actually I think it s better to make sure the link will open on a new tab/window.

    Great share!

I also noticed a big increase by adding multiple YouTube videos that explain separate features of a product you are promoting (such as amazon products) I found some by the shopping network like HSN so they are always higher priced and people will click through to amazon for better price. I would have 2-3 vids on one page that explain a feature each and wow like an extra 2-5 min have been added to my visits. Hope that helps.

Here is another tip on how to keep web visitors longer on the website:
publish articles that are 750 words or close to that. It sounds difficult but once you get into that habit, it really becomes your second nature.

You probably are thinking: where the hack do I get all the ideas for writing? Browse ezinearticles.com for inspiration. Don't just copy, get the idea & be creative. Remember, people already wrote about everything under the moon. But people keep writing and reading. It will never change.

Isn't interlinking a common and a pretty old idea? Its been known for good few years this strategy not only increases page views but is also very good for page optimization.

Anyway, its still a good reminder for people and also good tip for others who are new to site management.

I see this strategy being done alot on Hubpages. This is how authors get their readers to stay on the hubs for longer, and to increase the chances of clicking on adsense ads or buying through amazon and ebay affiliate products.
