HELP... Word To PDF Conversion Anchor Text Not Live

I'm trying to convert a Word file to PDF. It has a lot of links, which are coming through just fine. It's the links with anchor text that aren't showing up. I'm using a paid version of Adobe Actobat 4.0. The Word document I'm trying to convert is pretty big - 149 pages.

The weird thing is that with smaller Word docs Anchor text links come through just fine. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

Can't you load the word doc, into Acrobat itself? Not using the conversions.

I had the same problem with CutePDF printer. The links don't work. Best way to go is to make the PDF in Acrobat itself.

Have you tried printing to PDF using distiller?

    If not.

I can make that work for you with my Mac. PM me if you are willing to send me the WORD and I will convert it to PDF.

Hey, I appreciate all of your responses. Right now I'm downloading Open Office and will give it a try. And Brad, I just might take you up on your offer...

    Thanks to all

    Therein lies your problem.

Everything prior to and including version 6 produced unstable PDFs.

If you absolutely must use version 4 then use plain-text links instead of Hyperlinks if your hyperlinks are not clickable.

Plain text links are simply Urls typed into your document.

No PDF converter needs to do anything with text that looks like a link because it is the PDF viewer that actually makes that text blue, underlined and clickable.

If you have Word 07, you can download a free pdf converter from MS.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

It's a fast download and quick install, no restart needed. If you select
to save as pdf, you wind up with the original Word docx, and a pdf.
If you poke around in the options a bit, you have a choice of saving
the pdf in a small file size (web optimized) or in a higher file size for
    high print quality.

I haven't done enough with it to be able to say it will do what you
want, but Word 07 really has impressed me, and I haven't heard of a
choice of file sizes for pdfs before.

I had the same problem and I just deleted the anchor text, made the same link without anchor text, and saved it. Then I closed word and turned it on again, created the same anchor text and it worked!

Try to save your file without the link, then try to open word again and create it and save. Before you click on your link to check it, be sure to close word again.

    Good Luck,

Thanks again for all of your responses. I figured it out. I used tables to keep the text flow under control in the Word doc. It seems that at one point, when I was copying and pasting stuff all over the place, I ended up with a table within a table, within yet another table. Once I fixed that the links came through without a problem. Go figure, huh? It took me a long time to figure it out though.

    Hey travlinguy,

Here is what you should do to get all your links clickable.

Step 1. Convert your MS word to 2003 format
    Step 2. Download Opensource writer
Step 3. Click File>Open> (Your MS word 2003) (It will automically do the importing)

The last step is pretty easy, just convert it to pdf and save it to your desktop and you are done. Please note that you MUST convert it to MSword 2003, else there will be some problem in the formatting.

    Hope this helps,
    Regards,

Hi Winson, I had the same trouble only today and found your post which worked fine with me as well. Complementary question if I may: Do you know/think Google's using the anchor text?
      Thanks anyway,
