Wow $6 Billion Spent on Campaigns

Can you believe that $6 billion was spent on campaigns for president this year. This exceeds the previous record by $700 million. I know that Obama paid for a ton of ppc and banner ads and web ads both for himself and against Romney.

So where does all that money go towards?

How much of that do you guys think went to creating ads for online and smart phone apps?

I heard most of it went on TV ads. You might not have seen them, because the majority of ads will only show in the swing states.

Most of the advertising is being targeted at those swing state and undecided voters.

I'm not a US citizen, but I found it creepy that the main parties had these mobile apps that could show you householders in your street and their voting intentions. Yikes - I think the EU would smash up any kind of intrusive app like this if the UK tried it.

That is a lot and surely, I have seen several of these campaings running around the net. Even in some cases, I have seen a major spike on KW like " O campaign " and others... they have actually gave us internet marketers some share of the work in one or the other way. But it is a huge expenditure in this financial climate.

Unless you are a billionaire who spent millions on those campaigns, you will not get anything in return

Obviously the systems broken when it turns into a marketing battle, with a "he who spends most wins" mentality from the candidates. Plus its not fair to third party candidates. Everyone should be capped at a low amount and that's it.

Are those $6,000,000,000 tax money or donations? Because I don't think Obama has a private fortune on $6 Billion. If he had, he wouldn't be a Democrat

The major force behind the spending: hundreds of "super PACs" and advocacy groups, which proliferated after a series of federal court rulings in 2010 lifted the ban on corporate political activity and permitted wealthy donors to pool unlimited sums of money for election spending.

That's not just one party. That's spending for the presidential campaign (both parties) and all the senate and house races.

Just goes to show what insane creatures humans are when there are so many millions of them homeless, dying from starvation and disease and $6 billion is spent on elections!

It make you think, why would someone spend that make money to win a job that only pays $400,000 a year. I just glad it will be done and over with tomorrow.

Trouble is right and wrong can be very subjective in situations like this. I think this new way of electoral campaigning is going to change the nation forever no matter who wins. I'm viewing that subjectively too but I don't think it will be for the better.

There needs to be a limit on that kind of stuff. I think you should be able to run a campaign for right around 1 billion or less..
