Making More Money With Blogger Rather Than Wordpress Blogs

by amuro 29 replies
As funny as it might sound to you and contrary to what most gurus preach, I make more money with Blogger rather than Wordpress blogs.

With Blogger, I can earn up to $200 in a day while with Wordpress, I tend to fluctuate between $20-60 per day.

Might consider switching back to Blogger. Though the domain name is costlier since it covers Blogger hosting, I have a funny feeling that Google now values Blogger blogs rather than Wordpress. I also feel Blogger easier to use than Wordpress with all the plugins and C-panel setup.

Anyway my first site is from Blogger.

      Hi Amuro

That's an interesting stat. How long a period have you monitored it over?

I have to say I've always used self hosted wordpress for my blogs as I always want to be in control of my content rather than be at the hands of a third party

good skills either way as you are making money with your blogs!

Unlike most people, I don't write to rank my sites nor make money though those appear to or should be my priorities.

From young, I have passion for writing essays even before internet. So to me, writing articles is not a problem for me.

What Google wants is not just keyword relevancy to your domain and title but to your content as well. But I might be wrong here since I am not what you called a SEO Geek or expert.

I don't make money from internet marketing initially even though I eventually do. My first site is a review of Resident Evil video games I played and I promote for Amazon.

I also do reviews on cooking recipes for my favorite food despite knowing nothing about cooking.

In promoting, I do a lot of article marketing, classified advertising and PDF submissions.

The problem with that is you are not in control of your content on Blogger. They can (and do) take your blog down without notice and you are done.

Never build a business on someone else's platform.

With Wordpress you are in complete control of your content.

Definitely an interesting perspective. Do you always buy the domain for these blogs - or do you ever leave them as .blogspot.com and still earn money from them?

      I do both.

Even before creating sites, I was already making money online from PPC, classified advertising and PDF submissions.

      All directly to affiliate links.

But after Google Slap and then Panda, I built squeeze pages and then review sites which I have been sticking to til now.

That doesn't suprise me as blogger ranks well in Google. The worst thing about blogger is that your blog can be removed at any time even if you have original content.

Have you got just as many blogger blogs as you have wordpress blogs or does the amount differ?

It all depends on what you're offering. Search engines do favor blogger more since it was one of the 1st blogging platforms, so it has high rank, and good for keyword rich niches. However, the good thing about wordpress is you control your blog, you don't want to too much depend on a blog that is hosted that can get shut down anytime. But, if it's working for you, continue and monetize, whichever is bringing the best results just stick with that one.

    Hi,
I'm studying this subject, and I also have suspicions that G somehow gives preferences to the Blogger.
Maybe it'd be wise to duplicate WP and Blogger?

I believe Google is becoming more greedy... I'm pretty sure they rank blogger better than other platforms, and value Google Plus over Facebook/Twitter.

With google's recent upgrade in AuthorRank (as opposed to PageRank), I wouldn't be surprised if there's even additional favoritism given to content publishers who have a direct connection between Google+ and their blogger blogs. hmmm, I'll have to test that one

    I just gotta say-
whats all this about 'not building on a third party platform' that 'you don't control'???
OP is making money with those sites.

I assume he uses very similar methods for the blogger and wp blogs (which he says he has both- and more importantly that the blogger ones do better)

Is he supposed to shut down his proven money makers?

Maybe we could ask about the varying niches and how they are spread across the two platforms? Maybe there is a distribution of niches between the two platforms that has led to this difference in revenue? Maybe the ones on blogger were the first several he made and therefore were built with more enthusiasm and therefore higher quality?

before pointing out the negatives, maybe we can learn something here?

    just saying

A balance of self hosted and third party platforms sounds good, but if the ranking factor isn't much different (blogger vs wordpress) then the unstability of blogger doesn't seem worth it.

Im not sure why bloggers spam system is much worser than squidoo. Maybe its because squidoo requires unique content, whereas blogger doesn't so they need a more severe spam system in place.

I did really well on blogspot was pulling in several hundred dollars a week from a few blogs I set up with a sales page template I made. I was selling software from these blogs and all was dandy until I shared my strategy, my blogs then got reported as being spam (which they were not) and were taken down. I got them reinstated, but that took a while and in the meantime my earnings had taken a complete hammering.

When I got my blogs back I used javascript redirects to self-hosted Wordpress sites. It was easy to sell from blogger and I got a lot of traffic and sales, but if you are serious about making a consistent income, you just can't rely on Blogger it's too damn easy for those sites to get taken down.

    Sad but true

I am still interested in the OP, despite all the anti-blogger advice...

What is it that has driven OP's blogger blogs to earn more money than his WP ones?
That seems to be the point-

Rather than flood the thread with 'don't host on blogger' posts and completely shut it down removes the possibility to learn something. Maybe we can focus on some of the specific differences between the two sets of blogs?
(and for all the anti-blogger folks, I will concede the point- Got it...don't build on blogger)

    Now, for a few questions:
Are the blogs similar in topic/niche?
What are the age differences between the blogger and WP blogs?
Were both sets built with the same or very similar methods?

Parsing out the differences might help all of us understand what it is that is causing the difference in income...

I have a feeling that the obvious 'these are on blogger and those are on a WP platform' is the easiest difference to see, but there are probably some other things that are truly the cause for the delta between earnings.

For the anti-blogger crowd, this is actually a re-inforcement of your theory...
You know, to dismiss the part about blogger/WP differences and to focus on some of the actual content/link building/etc. methods...

Or maybe there is a feature on blogger that sets up the links in a way that are not currently set up on the WP blogs?

Oh, and on a final note- making 200 a day on a set of blogs hosted on blogger points to some successful tactics used by OP... If OP could share some of his thoughts?

What happens if Blogger shuts down your blog? You know they can do that right? And they can do that anytime they want to without any warning. That is why i choose WordPress - I have completely control over my blogs.

Because the spam system that blogger uses is flawed. Even if you submit original content and don't even think about keyword density, your blog can be removed. A blog which discusses the blogger spam system says that it uses "fuzzy logic" so in other words there is no way to know how to avoid your blog being marked as spam.

Wow, I guess nobody is interested in this potential learning event other than to prove how smart they are by pointing out how the blogs OP has that make more money right now might get shut down.

Go ahead then folks, throw the baby out with the bathwater.
    Sorry to have intruded.

OP, if you would like to discuss further, I know I'd like to for sure- maybe we can whisper on the thread or we can even PM.

It's not really a learning event as blogger is just another platform. There are methods all over this forum where people explain the ways of monetizing, backlinking, etc..

It's only right to give the OP the heads up on just how unstable blogger is, that is if he isn't yet aware.

I guess another question I have is when you say wordpress versus blogger, are you referring to the wordpress free blog site or to sites on your hosting program that you installed and use wordpress on?

    Um...
Forgive me, there is a learning event- one group of blogs is making a substantially higher revenue than another- blogs build by the same person with (on the surface) the same methods.

Now, if you don't think comparing one group to the other is valuable, OK. But if you don't think it is interesting, maybe others do?

But, lets not worry about all that!
Lets just slam the thread with 'dont build on blogger' posts and if that doesn't work we could all stamp our feet as well.

Great to hear some one finding success!

When you say wordpress blogs, I am guessing your NOT talking about free hosted wordpress. com blogs. I've never had any luck with those. Get deleted quick even with little marketing. I don't know how people get by selling on the free hosted ones.
