Paypal Payment Fixed Plus Subscription?

I know that we can setup a buy now button to accept a fixed payment, or we can also setup subscriptions, but can we do both on the one transaction? ie. a $97 payment and then $9.95 monthly or $80 annually

Is it possible to do the above through Paypal alone, or would we have to use a third party provider as well

    The only way would be to use the trial setup. You would have to set up a trial for $97 for one day then set the normal recurring however you want it.

    This is the only way that PayPal can do what you are after as far as I know, after spending years writing systems that integrate with PayPal and digging through pretty much every way possible to do PayPal payments.

    If it is possible to do what you want without using the trial system I haven't seen it yet.

      Thanks for the comprehensive reply, any idea as to what I could use instead of Paypal to accomplish the purpose. My thoughts are that it would be listed as a trial when in fact it was not a trial I was ofdfering, rather a purchase and then a monthly subscription

      Would it be listed on the buyers end as a trial?

      By the way, I contacted Paypal and they said the easiest way was to add another separate button, but my thoughts are that the buyer experience would not be as good with that.
