Affiliate links in opt-in material?

I am thinking about offering a free ebook as an opt-in incentive. Is it ok to have some affiliate links in it or not?

I personally don't see a problem with it.

    Yes.

I always have an affiliate link in mine. But I make it look like an afterthought, and present it in such a way that nobody's ever going to think that was my purpose in "giving the freebie". I never let it detract from my overall continuity-process, and I make quite sure that the specific purpose of the freebie is to get the maximum possible open-rate for the email series following it. This is what really matters to your long-term income.

I know that people do pass those freebies on to other people, and I like to have links to my own site and an affiliate-link included in it, so I can try to get something back from that.

Yes, it's perfectly fine. You should do it.

As you can tell from the responses, adding your affiliate links turns your gift into a valuable traffic source.

    Go for it!

It's very smart to add affiliate links to your lead magnet. I do for mine. It can bring in a nice bit of sales depending on your flow of leads.

Thanks for all the replies I appreciate the help. I plan on having about 3 or 4 links to affiliate products not including the link to my own site. Too many links? I am afraid it will lose value if I have this many links in it. Alexa says "an" link and "as an afterthought". That's great advice but I was planning on more than just one.

Provide such good info that relates to that link that they want to click on it!

A bunch of links that don't related to anything in the book is annoying.

You can also have a "recommended reading" section at the end as well.

Give your honest opinion about an affiliate product, the pros, the cons, and why it would be helpful.
