Email client problems - can you recommend an alternative?

hey warriors,

I got an email from MailChimp saying they disabled my account because apparently I'm in a high risk industry (I wasn't aware being a marketing consultant would be considered high risk)

So now I am stuck without an email client... so what I would like from you lovely warriors is a recommendation of an email service provider which is:

- reliable
- not expensive
- allows me to manually add in leads (I collect a lot of leads offline at shows and events) without my leads having to optin again
- allows me to have a nice newsletter template

any ideas guys?

    Getresponse, aweber and all other big players in the industry will NOT allow you list import (even if they will, you will have to send a pre-made confirmation letter to your subscribers so they optin again)... So I don't think they are an option if you want to get going FAST.

    The price really depends on your subscriber count and how many emails you want to send per day.

    But from what I've tried, I really recommend you take a look at mailjet.com - it's an SMTP solution (it's higher level than using regular autoresponder like mailchimp) that has got built in autoresponder with nice templates, and almost 100% inbox rate.

    If you are running a small, legit email marketing business this will be cheap for you and you will get your emails read every single time due to high deliverability

      This is wrong as I know in some, if not most, instances Get Response will work with you if you can prove the leads are legitimate.

      That's not true Christina.

      Of course we allow people to import a list! That's just crazy talk to suggest otherwise .

      As for the confirmation process, I'm afraid you are wrong there too. You can request to have this waived right from your GR desktop.

    I would start fresh with Aweber or GetResponse.

    They were built by Internet marketers, so they understand where you're coming from.

    Trust me when I tell you that you'll have difficulty transfering your list at some places. I hear conflicting reports about aweber / getresponse.

    They basically all have to opt in again from what I gather. (I've never personally tried, but have heard reports from reliable sources). - The best bet, is to send them a professional email, introduce yourself, and ask. (What do you have to lose?)

      Guys thanks a lot for your honest answers - I've just taken a look at icontact and spoken to their reps.

      One of the issues I had originally was that because I collect a lot of leads offline, I had to be able to manually add them in - as far as I'm aware, many of the big players don't allow this and ask you get them to optin instead.

      My issue is that if a lead has filled out a form or allowed me to scan their details at a trade show, I should not have to ask them to optin again.

      icontact has confirmed I can manually add the leads in as long as they are legitimately collected which in this case they are...

      So, unable to wait, I've just signed up with them for $19 a month...

          I did consider this Joe, but with the data pen, I get their address, phone number etc and it's a 2 second scan to collect the leads, compared to having people waiting to optin with their details.

          for the weekend I exhibited at CamExpo, we had queues at our stand several times. What made me mad however was the pen we hired stopped working half way through the day meaning we lost around 50 leads

          Good to know I got refunded for their mistake!

      As long as the list is legit, then you shouldn't have any problems importing it with us and waiving the confirmation process. Of course, what leaves room for conflicting reports (I don't doubt Sarevok has heard both sides) is that everyone is certain their list is legit. Some aren't and that sometimes is not apparent to the marketer for any number of reasons. What mitigates this to some degree is the willingness of the AR/ESP to have a human factor involved to make the judgement calls when the need arises. That's were people like me come in. Inwardly I'm your advocate at GetResponse and proud to be that human factor in the process. Damn proud actually.

      I collected email addresses from shows, and uploaded them to iContact using CSV files.

    iContact I would SOMEWHAT recommend, but after Vocus bought them recently, things have been going down hill. The deliverability has really gone down hill... if they could get that in order, they would be great to work with. They allowed us to import a large list (several hundreds of thousands) but that was over a year ago.

    Stay as far away from aWeber as you can. They are awful. I could write a book as to why, but here are a few reasons:

    1) They were hacked twice, which ended up compromising our list to russian hackers, who then proceeded to send spam to our entire list on a daily basis. Aweber refused to compensate us even though the damage to us was immense (our list was over 400,000).

    2) They hate IM marketers. They will shut you down for little to no reason and refuse to give you your names. This happened to us and over 5 other marketers I know personally.

    3) Their client service staff was incredibly rude and ignorant. I once found a post made by one of their employees who was a manager there, making fun of a job applicant at aweber and talking about their resume. Incredibly unprofessional.

    I use Aweber. They're pretty good, and is newbie friendly. Plus they have a $1 trial going on right now for 30 days.
