Walmart called me "Valued Customer"

Received a promo email from Walmart a few minutes ago and the address it to "Valued Customer" instead of my name.

I wonder if it was done on purpose.

    It was done on purpose.

Walmart is all about LCV. They know that their customers aren't a one shot deal. Walmart customers will be coming back again and again. It's about positioning.

That's all apart of their marketing plan.

It was done on purpose Walmart is trying to position themselves so that you become a long term loyal customer.

    You really think...

"Valued Customer," will convert better than "First name," ?

I wouldn't be astonished, certainly. "First name" can convert worse than other things. A lot of people feel that when big companies (or even individual marketers) address them in email by the first names, they're coming across "like an insurance salesperson", and they're not keen on it at all.

I no longer use my subscribers' first names when sending out autoresponder email to them.

      Yukon, that sounds creepy LOL!

Seriously though... I noticed that some of my credit card companies have been writing me with the same salutation - "Dear Valued Customer". Been getting these emails in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy (I'm on the East Coast).

Could be the corporate big wigs trying to show their compassionate side; letting me know that I am "valued" by them.

Or... it could just be them letting me know that I *have* value... as in a $$$ value for them at least! LOL!

it might mean something, it might not.

Even though your name is on the site, it could be something as simple as who ever programed their newsletter doesn't know or didn't set it up so your name shows up in the email.

It happens mostly when someone do's a mass email.....

Maybe they wanted to show priority that Their Customers are important to them ?

They want everyone to feel special...all about marketing and the bottom line (get customers into the store any way possible)

They probably presented different phrases like "valued customer" or "special members" to a bunch of different focus groups to see which one was the most favorable...and chose Valued Customer.

I got another email from them today and searched past emails... they used my name.

Remember... just because you see something doesn't mean they are doing it because it works. It could be an error or someone else doing what they saw someone else doing.

Test and see what works for you. Then test more.

As you say the site had your name on, I'll assume it was a genuine email.

"Dear Valued Customer" is the standard opening for most scam emails claiming to come from PayPal, banks, in fact just about anywhere.

Are you a "Valued Customer" to them?
I know I send email blast to my segmented list and use terms like "valued customer" or "my loyal customer", etc.

If they have your first name they would certainly use it in their email promo. They prob don't so guess they will settle for "Valued customer" for now..

i could really care less whether someone calls me a valued customer or by my first name, just because they use my first name its not like were buds or were on a first name basis its all auto generated anyway not like some guy at walmart is reaching out to me to truly thank me personally for my business.

i would actually think valued customer may be better as some people dont like their information stored, sold, etc so saying valued customer gives you more anonymity sorta

So, if I'm not a valued customer, just a regular one, does that mean I am no value to them until I am marked as valuable?

I'm willing to bet that you're still gonna buy from Walmart in the immediate future.
