Is Amazon Affiliate Program Comming Back For Illinois Residents?

Back when my idiot Governor Pat Quinn tried to play hardball with Amazon we wound up losing our ability to be Amazon affiliates for Illinois residents. I noticed when I made an amazon purchase yesterday that I was charged sales tax which I didn't used to be charged. Because they are charging sales tax will my state be able to be Amazon affiliates again since sales tax is the whole reason they cancelled our affiliate programs for us?

As far as I know, there is no change coming up with the Amazon Affiliate program not allowing certain states in.

This is happening in Georgia too (where I live).

It's kind of a tricky situation, but from my understanding, if Amazon IS charging you (as an Illinois resident) sales tax on your purchase, that is telling me that Illinois DOES in fact, believe that affiliates in your state create a "nexus" relationship for Amazon.

In short, that means that Illinois is saying that you, as an affiliate in Illinois, create a physical presence for Amazon in your state that requires sales tax for online purchases. (which, in my humble opinion, is the silliest thing I've ever heard so don't get me started on all that...lol!).

Short answer, most likely you still can NOT be an affiliate for amazon if you have an Illinois address.

Best answer: email Amazon and ask them to be sure.
