Beyond Kindle Specs - thoughts?

Hey everyone,

So I have an ebook that I want to sell on Amazon. Problem is that it is well over any of their specs for Kindle.

The book itself, after compressing the PDF, is 34Mb. It is 512 pages, and has about 850 images (almost all of them full color). As it is designed, the book is written in 4 parts, so in theory I could create those four parts as individual books, however even then I'm looking at roughly 9Mb per part. (As a related note, the uncompressed Word doc version is about 75Mb.)

The other part is that I sell this book for $50 (USD).

Any ideas on what I can do here? I seem to be well beyond every spec that Amazon has for publishing on the Kindle.

    Hi,

    You should have no problem if you break it up in 4 parts... I have an e-book that's about 140 A4 pages long with over 100 screen-shots, the .mobi file weights over 8MB and I've had no problem with it.
    For the record, I use http://www.2epub.com/ to convert to the mobi format first, then I upload that .mobi file to Amazon.

    Split the ebook up into smaller self contained ebooks each linking to the next in the series and the previous one in the series. If you can get away with splitting it into more than four books it might be an option.

    Sign the first book up to kindle select and run a two day giveaway (put the price at 9.99 so the discount appears larger). Proceed to run a giveaway every thirty days...

    Thanks folks. I'll look at splitting it up. Each part will be incomplete though for sure, thoughts on dealing with that, as the readers will be kind of annoyed they are getting incomplete information from one part alone...

    Also, is there a way to get over the $9 point for Kindle books?
