I have decided that whenever I ask a question to forum members, I will give something back in return. My tip about file conversion is at the bottom.

QUESTION - What is the best FREE way to record a video of myself as I look at the webcam and talk? I am not talking about screen captures. I used Youcam in the past and have had problems with it. I am looking for a free alternative that that will let me make free recordings of me about 2 minutes long, with no watermark. YOUTUBE offers something like this, but the video is always choppy....

My Tip - I convert files all the time from one format to another and the best I have found is Zamzar. No affiliate link - because it is always free.

  • Forget about web cams. Instead, get yourself a digital video camera. You can get a decent one for under $100 on Amazon, eBay, Walmart, etc.

  • Rob, I've started a similar thread to this. Always looking for new ways to create presell videos and such, they're very powerful on capture pages.

    I'm going to kind of echo what Kurt has said. Except allow me to add that I have actually used my smartphone to record presell vids before. Just record it, then email it to yourself and use something like ZamZar to convert it to .mpg or .wmv if you can. Then, I just use Windows Movie Maker for my editing.

    However, I've been looking for a good online video editor that isn't YouTube

  • I use my iphone on a tripod. Look up "studio neat glif tripod mount" for the dongle that makes it work.

  • Just invest in a good digital camcorder. It's one of the best investments you plan on using videos to promote your site for the long haul... plus they dont cost much.
  • I use my Ipone or a digital camera.

    if you can't afford a digital camera right now then use your phone's video camera. The way they are now I bet most of them can produce better quality than a webcam.
