Consensus on using [ ] in an E-Mail Blast subject title

What are the opinions on using [ ] in a subject title?

I´ve been testing and I find that it actually works reasonably well when compared to a similar subject title without the []. Especially if putting certain words in between, [CERTAIN WORDS] "Further Explanation" etc.

I really thought that spam filters and even the users themselves would flag this immediately but it seems to have positive effects on my open rate. This said, my open rate is low I feel, but that´s another subject topic in itself and is planned for a little bit later after some more research.

As you have probably guessed, I am a newbie so just thinking outloud and trying to contribute.

I've found that all characters, except for , and - used sparingly, tend to lower my open rates.

I've also found that all lower case characters results in the best open rates.

My opinion: brackets look sales-y, hence a turn-off. However words that ring true to what people want or need seem to do very well.

I hate [] brackets in email subjects. Email subjects with keywords that trigger an emotional response always work best for me.

Whatever works after testing is the method to choose! If the [ ] 's work for you then go with it I say! ScottieDog, you will find that alot of Warriors will give you well-meaning advice how to market, according to their expertise and experience, but the only thing that really counts is what produces the best results for you! Over the years, many people have had some 'crazy', way-out ideas that have lead to big successes and vast fortunes. Sometimes it is the inventive marketer who comes up with the most original ideas who goes on to the most fruitful discoveries and outcomes.
