Product catalog website - Need a bit of advice.

Hey guys I am sure you have seen them, product catalog sites which list thousands of products and somewhere next to each product listing there is price comparison between amazon, walmart, etc.. (Of course these are affiliate links.)

What I am planning to do is create something similar to this site: http://shop.retrevo.com/m/search/pro...278&m=24010940 but no where near as big and in only one niche.

This site gets great traffic alexa rank (7104). My questions are: is there anything I can do to get something fairly similar for wordpress? Does anyone have experience with this kind of site? Any pointers? Thank you very much for any answers in advance!

If you're looking for a price comparison plugin for WP, then maybe this will help.

I've seen these just in passing and didn't pay much attention to them because I don't have sites like these. And there may be more than one plugin for this. You can Google it and see what comes up...

    Hi Luvhammers

You would do well to start with a dedicated shopping script (although other methods may work too), and tie this in with some sort of plugin for comparison. There's a link to a product here on the warrior forum (not an aff link) but thats just for comparing stuff on amazon, but these should give you a few basic pointers to work from.

Cheers guys, that is the sort of stuff i was looking for. Comparisons, list of prices.

Not quite sure where to begin with a dedicated shopping script you mentioned though.

Another example is cnet reviews : Apple iPod Shuffle Review - Watch CNET's Video Review

I know they don't use wordpress, but is there a way to make the sidebar different on every post in wordpress? So I could put these prices above the fold on the right like cnet have?

Yes, you can do this with WP, but I'm confident it depends on the theme. Or, you can hire a programmer to make your pages display different information in the sidebar.

I've also seen themes that can do this at Theme Forest but don't remember which one it was. I think the Karma theme does it.

You can also post this question in the Programming forum here. I'm sure someone can give you a better answer.
