Aim to make one site huge or run various sites?

Sometimes I feel the 10 sites or so that I run gets a bit overwhelming at times. I know there are some out there that run many 10s of sites, but I feel as though if you start neglecting even the moderlatly static sites for a while, the traffic starts dropping. I am thinking would it be better perhaps to just go with your most authoritative site and run with it. But then you have the risk of suddenly going down rankings a bit and whatnot, and if you only run one site you don't have the others to act as a counterweight.

I know that if I only run one site (maybe two) I would be way more productive and channel all my efforts into making it big, but its easier said than done as its difficult to give up sites you have. You become really attached.

If when you stop focusing on some of them they start to lose traffic and die... so obviously something is wrong with them.

Sites should get to a place where they either grow organically. Word of mouth, basic (not competitive) SEO that doesn't need constant work etc. You should leave it alone and it grows. OR It needs to be a machine where you feed it a $50 daily Adwords budget or banners or something and it returns your cost with a positive ROI.

If either of those is the case you put it on the back burner to work on your main project. And when you get time down the road you come back and its bigger than you expected, or at least making you money still.

If its not doing this, you should think about selling, or let it sit until you can give it the time of day. Don't miss out on a big money maker for a few pennies.
