Fees: Cashing an American Click bank check in a UK bank

I just went to my bank to cash a couple of clickbank checks and Santander said £10 charge per check so i went over the road to Barclays and they are saying £6 - £60 per check depending on the amount to be transferred. Whats the best way to get at my money without the banks taking some more than there fair share

    It doesn't really matter.

£10 each for two cheques via Santander isn't a disaster. Some banks charge £8 instead, but who cares?

The point is that it's only for your first two cheques anyway. After that you can switch to direct deposit and not have the problem.

(I'm with Santander, also. I know they have a slightly questionable reputation in this forum, but they've always been very convenient for me, and I like them, and the only days I ever have a lot of money in that account are the days in which ClickBank payments clear, anyway).

Thanks I appreciate the help although I now have 4 checks,

Anybody seen this site AuctionPix, UK Based Image Host and US$ Currency Conversion

Apparently they charge 95p for as many checks as you can fit in an envelope!

      I see.

      That's different.

I'm betting that if you ask ClickBank nicely, they'll let you send all those cheques back by post (now that they've been used to confirm your address), and they'll add their total onto your first direct deposit transfer, so you don't have to pay that £10 fee at all. They don't announce this anywhere on their site, but they'll usually allow that. No promises, obviously, but I've certainly suggested it to quite a lot of people and I don't remember an instance of being told that they said "no".

Haven't used it but had a look at the site. 95p processing fine but no mention of the exchange rate. Many places will change money "for no fees" but in practice the exchange rate is rubbish and that is how they make their money.

So I'd get some confirmation of what their exchange rates are before jumping in.

I opened a new Clickbank account recently and asked Clickbank to make it direct deposit as I have had another long standing Clickbank account already with direct deposit.

However I made a mistake in the set up and long story short ended up with a Cheque. I put the check into Barclays Bank UK.

The next payment was direct deposit into same account around the same time as the first cheque cleared.

I checked the actual conversion rate (Actual £ received/$ paid)

Cheque was 1.62 and direct deposit was 1.66. Payments were similar value.

So not a lot in it it seems.

BTW this was an existing bank account of mine. You didn't say if you had a bank account with Barclay's, but I assume you have.

Halifax is the same. Ten quid fee. Nationwide was more expensive and now I do the same. Direct deposit straight into my account. I've been daft enough not to double check the amounts, conversion rates and make sure their weren't any fees deducted.

I've never seen any fees deducted by my bank for direct deposits. They are converted to £ by Clickbank before being transferred. It will depend on the Clickbank exchange rate as to how good your conversion is. However not having to go to the bank and deposit a $ check in a UK would be worth paying a premium for anyway.

Thanks for your input, do you know the difference in exchange rates - is it below $1.50 per £1?

Can't you just deposit them, wait until they clear and then withdraw the money?

Lloyds TSB have increased their fee. They charge £11.92 now to cash a check. Before it was £8.
