Internet Marketing - An absolute Newbie guide

Hi, I first got interested in internet marketing around a year ago, but it took me quite a while to figure out what it entailed.

While there is a lot of info out there for newbies, everything I found required some basic knowledge to understand.

Warrior Forum has helped me a lot in my journey so far, so I wanted to write this quick guide just to help out any absolute newbie.

Also, i am still learning, so it may need correcting on a couple of points, but this is how I see it-

There are 2 ways to make money from internet marketing;

1) sell your own products and services and
2) promote someone else's (This is affiliate marketing)

In order to promote/sell anything you need 'traffic' (People browsing the internet are traffic)

[Side note - Alternatively you can also sell products on Amazon, ebay, Craigslist, etc]

There are 2 main ways to get traffic -

1)Paid
2)Free

Paid traffic comes from these places, among many others -

PPC (Pay per Click)- Ads displayed on Google, Yahoo, Bing and people's websites
PPV (Pay per View)- Ads that come up as a pop-up

Free Traffic comes from your website being displayed on google or other search engines, when people type in a search term.

There is a lot of competition to get free traffic, so to appear in a high position on the internet search results requires you to follow a process called SEO, you also need a site that offers unique and interesting content to the person reading it.

SEO (search engine optimization) - following different strategies which improve your website in the eyes of Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. thus causing them to put your site higher in the list of results.

If you are selling someone else's products, you would typically apply to an affiliate network (Make sure you research how to get accepted before you apply) and then choose an offer to promote. You would then be given your own unique link to the product and would receive money from the network when someone used your link to buy something, sign up for a trial, or another specified action.

Tips -

You can probably get all the info you need for free, or cheap, no need to buy expensive Internet Marketing products.

You need to be patient, and persistent, keep going until you find something that makes money and then do more of it. (Do not expect overnight success)

When starting, aim for a market with very low competition, this will help you get your first sale. (this is the most important sale you will make)

Enjoy the journey - Find an aspect of internet marketing, or a field that you are passionate about.
