Email: Using special characters (* - =) in "from" and "subject", bad idea?

2 replies
Hi -

Any thoughts on whether it looks spammy/bad to use * or -= =- in email "from" or "subject lines"? I saw an email today that used a triangle arrow type character that really made it stand out, in the subject line, without it looking bad...like this:

▶Hurry and order now

deliverability issues? in testing I haven't seen things filtered to spam if they use some of the ascii characters, as long as it's not over the top like

>>> ----==== (** GET THIS OFFER ** ))===== <<<<

which is way too much of course.. any insights on it, or test results?

thx,

k

    using such characters can send your email straight to the junk folder....that is exactly what the filters look out for so if i was you I would stay away...........use actual copy..try adding a specific number to grap attention...

    Absolutely...keep your subject lines as character-free as possible.

    You should only use - , ? sparingly and not to draw attention to your email
