First time stepping on the door of the WF in a while and I noticed that we now have this cool banner atop the screen in every section - including the WSO section.

Wonder how sellers feel about paying to advertise only to have a distraction on each and every sales thread for people to click away?

Tim

You are talking about the hello bar right? It's only ever linking within the forum so I don't see the problem.

Click here to register? Uh, yeah - it's like 10 bucks now to join the forum.

So glad I got in while it was free!

        Really?

This site is definitely worth 10 bucks and a lot more, but I think it might deter a lot of people from initially joining.

    Hi Tim,

Perhaps you are using an outdated browser or an off-brand computer. I'm logged in and don't see the banner you're talking about.

    Weird.

    All the best,

I know what you mean, I bought an ad in the classified ads in my newspaper the other day and it was surrounded by thousands of distracting ads.

I think he is talking about that red strip at the top of the forum. Mine currently say, "Do you offer web hosting? New advertising spot -> Check It Out [LINK]"

And I don't share Tim's concerns about it. People go to the pages, because they want to see what is on the pages. If they follow the ad in the strip, they will come back to the page that brought them to see that ad in the first place.

If you mean that it will deter many of the spammers and scammers, then yes. That was the point.

Hmmm, I don't know about that. Why do none of us put unnecessary links on our sales pages? If you give people a reason to click away you will often lose that person forever. I think it's probably the minority that would click back to the original page rather than the majority. People have very short attention spans nowadays.

A compromise would be for the link in the 'hello bar' (that's what it's called guys) to open up in a new window. That way after people have visited the link the original page will still be there.

If that's what Tim wants though this is the best place to make his suggestion:

That is the theory anyway, but I think when it comes to the WSO section, WSO buyers are a bit more committed to the sales page than that, especially if they are regular forum users and have seen the Hello Bar on several pages before landing on the WSO sales page.

I'm still wondering what everyone is talking about. You mean the big banner ad or something else that I don't see? Haven't got a clue what a hello bar is.

EDIT: Never mind. I use Ghostery and apprently it blocks the hello bar. I paused it and now I see it.

I'm not sure exactly where people got the idea that the WSO forum dictates what happens on this forum but, it's a good idea to lose...
