Still dependent on micro niche sites?

Hi guys,

Lately I have seen with all the google updates it has become real difficult to make consistent money with micro niche sites.

One update and your site might fall off page one.

So my question is how many of you still depend on micro niche sites for major portion of your income.

As of now I am slowly becoming hesitant of the strategy what about you?

I do have few micro niche sites but in no way I am dependent on them to make my living. However, most of my micro niche sites are still doing well except two or three. I always knew this business model by not sustainable in the long term and I am glad I moved on the authority model early.

One thing I learned early that one shouldn't be dependent on one source of income.

That's mainly because Google is now focusing on the unique content. And the unique content is usually provided by the big companies that have lots of employees.

That is not true. You don't need to be a Fortune 500 company to provide unique content. Countless individual marketers are doing this. Your content doesn't really need to be a Pulitzer prize winning piece but I can't be garbage MFA content that people put on EMD sites either.

Anoopchawla - I'm sure you've heard of the old maxim, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket."

Here's one thing I've learned in Internet Marketing. If I fail in one area, I ask myself, "How did I do it?" I do not, and will never, ask myself "What did I do?"

If I were to ask myself "What did I do?" I will surely answer things like these:
    • micro niche site
    • content writing
    • seo
    • web design
    • social signals services

But if I were to ask myself "How did I do it?" I will be directed to oblige myself to do a root-cause analysis but I make it won't lead me to paralysis-analysis.

You know, I'm not trying to boast or make it appear that I'm better than anyone, but I've observed another thing, too. Some "experienced" IMers, who are SEVERAL YEARS ahead of me, both in the field of IM and in the date I was born (haha, silly), complain a lot about "WHAT" they do. So seldom (1 out of 100 perhaps?) do I see someone blaming "HOW" he was doing it, which led him/her to failure.

So, if you feel like you're not doing well in micro niche site kind of business, get some AIR (analyze, investigate, revise). And if you fee like failing, always fail forward.

    I hope that helps.

And the unique content is usually provided by the big companies that have lots of employees.
Sorry my fellow Warrior. That's not true. I am working for a content writing firm yet I can tell you that there are individual writers who are, sometimes, even better than those writers working for a large content writing firm. Bottom line, we really just can't gauge the goodness of the person based on the size of his company or his lackness of a company, or anything like that (you got my point, anyway).

It's high time you start focusing on sites which provides real value to your site visitors .Depending on microniche sites only is a dangerous proposition these days.

As we have been doing it for our clients, concentrate on building high quality site with good useful content... it takes time but it's worth it. Once you build a critical mass start social media promotion....it will give you much better ROI than shady link building tactics.

From our experience we have seen that a high quality site starts getting quality traffic even with minimal or no promotions. This is because the site content attracts thousands of long tail keyword visitors... even keywords you have never thought of or find in any Keyword tool

We have built sites for clients ranking in Google Top page for single keyword and getting traffic from dozens and dozens of keyword based on just 2 factors: Silo web structure and quality content.

P.S: I may create a separate case study thread of this method if there's enough interest

The better question would be, are you still dependent on Google?

It is not a good idea to put all your eggs in one basket. Micro niche sites still working for many but many have lost their way too. It mostly depends on the niche itself.
