is there such a thing as region 1/region 2 for dvd roms...

Hi warriors,

This maybe a blonde question, but as the saying goes, the most stupid question is the one not asked.

I want to create a dvd rom.

Will this play in all PC's in the world - or is a dvd rom just like a dvd - region 1 region 2 etc etc.

Therefore would I have to create seperate dvd roms for different regions???

    Hi,

    As far as I know there are DVD regions for movie DVD's. Some movies won't play outside of the regions they have been asigned. You can play the movie if you change the DVD region, but is allowed only 5 times in windows XP. Once the 5 count is over nothing can be done to reset it. There are patches available to reset but not recomended.

    Someone suggestd me to use VLC player to view movie DVD's which bypasses the region check and it worked. I don't think you need to set regions if you produce your own movies. here is some information regarding DVD regions and why you need them

    DVD region coding is part of the "copy protection"/"digital rights management" system for commercial DVDs. Without going into an unnecessary rant about how ridiculous it is (why shouldn't I be able to play a DVD I bought, anywhere in the world, on any player I want?) I'll just say that, as far as I know, since you can't include the same "digital rights management" on a burned DVD-ROM you shouldn't have to worry about region coding. It should "just work" regardless of what player the disc is inserted into.
