Existing site (Great Traffic) or New Site for Product Launch

May I please pick the traffic experts brain's out there?

If you have an existing site that has really awesome traffic, is it better to launch a new product from that existing domain or a new one which is an EMD for the product name?

What are the pros and cons?

Thanks
Di

Have you built a subscriber list from the high traffic site?

I would recommend you to use a new domain and brand the product because you can still send your visitors from your other site to the sales page. All you have to do is send an email out (if you have subscribers) or post on your site that you have released a product and direct people to check it out.

Not quite sure what exactly you're looking to do though. It would be more helpful if you showed what the high traffic site looks like.

    Hi Diana,

In my personal experience I've launched products for clients on separate domains for each product. This has allowed us to offer top affiliates domains related to the launch for their use and also allowed us to focus JV recruitment and support on that site.

In order to make good use of the traffic from the main site we have simply put a large prominent banner on our homepage directing people to the product, in fact all our marketing efforts were based on the main page and only directed people to the product page for them to get further information.

The advantage of this is that should you decide to sell this product on later on, you can since it is a separate entity from your main site.

    I hope this makes sense,

    Chris

You already have the traffic, make good use of it. You could use option 2, but how long will it take to get the targeted traffic-- that option 1 already has...

    Dan,

There is a huge list of subscribers and that will be the first place to start in terms of driving traffic.

I am trying to decide on the route after that in terms of getting the site to rank on the product name or on the existing sites name because the aim is to get people to land on the sales page and not just one of the pages on the regular site.

The high traffic site is a standard blog with loads of fresh content and most of the traffic comes from searches on specific keywords that are ranking well.

Build brands, not websites structured around keywords.

Well the short answer is if you know how to guide traffic well it doesn't matter which domain name you use.

It you have a proven method and know how to take advantages of back links then even if you start a new domain you'd get traffic there
