What do you spend your time on/How much do you work?

Hi fellow Warriors,

I've been in internet marketing for several years now, and I'm struggling with the question of what to spend time on.

It's not that I have too little time, rather the opposite: too much time.

Here's what I do:
- I've had articles written for my blog
- I transform the articles into videos for the video sites
- I post the articles on the blog along with the video
- I create PDFs of the article and the slides and distribute those
- I reply to forum postings
- I manage my PPC campaign to drive traffic

This proces, which can even be further outsourced or automated takes me less than a day per website. Somewhere in my mind is the notion that I have to work every day, otherwise I don't feel productive, even if I already have new blogposts on my site, videos distributed etc.

So, what do you spend your time on? And how much do you work daily?

Looking forward to your reply!

  • i actually do the same. I would just like to include social media marketing coz it takes 33% of my working time, which is about 5-6 hours per day..

    • Thanks for your response Travis.

      How does social media marketing take up 33% of your time? What do you do in that time? Interact on Twitter/Facebook? Write tweets or updates?
      And is it worth the time to spend so much time on this part of your business? Is the ROI acceptable?

  • About the same: 5-6 hours per day. Although I have to admit I am a stats addict and I spend another 2-3 hours per day refreshing reports and making sure everything is working properly.

  • I do affiliate marketing as well as provide services, so I spend time on:

    - Finding JV partners and traffic funnels (ad swaps, banner advertising, etc.)
    - Reading/researching new products, services, spending time on forums;
    - Analyzing traffic and conversion numbers and looking for ways to improve;
    - Customer service: analyzing customers' websites, giving advice on what and how to improve;
    - Thinking of ways to improve the services to provide better value to customers;
    - Helping employees and VAs if they need any help;

    Basically, half of my time I am reading/researching/analyzing something as I need new ideas, and another half I spend on "direct" tasks: emails & communication, existing and potential customers and partners.

    As for "how much" - it would be hard to tell cause I work as much as I can simply because I enjoy working and do not treat it as "work" - I just need to work a lot to feel good. If I was to do the work needed only, I think it would take 6-8 hours daily on a regular basis, and probably around 8-10 hours/day on "peak" times .

    • Thanks for your reply Alex.

      I have the same "need to work to feel good/productive" feeling, but sometimes I question it. If you get the work done in 3-4 hours a day, why work 6-8 hours a day filling the other hours with less effective stuff?
  • I work 8+ hours a day, and I spend at least half of that managing my staff team.
  • Spend the first part of my day on what will improve my business the most. At the current moment that is increasing traffic by social media.

    Rest of the day I try to learn something new that will help me in the future
  • At the moment I work at every waking moment. So around 15 hours a day. This is quoted by the people around me as I do not actually track the time I spend at the moment. I just track my cashflow. Once it steadies up which it seems to be, I will spend less time but it is way too much fun doing your own thing and not be tied down to a cubicle doing set tasks by the man. Just focusing on growth and good growth. So I spend my time list building and partnering up with JV's for product launches and future cashflow generating activities. I still feel that there is not enough time in the day. But all good. Love the challenge.
  • Well most of what I saw you doing besides replying to forum posts and your PPC campaign was all building up articles for your website, (which looked great by the way). However, I recommend spending some time on social marketing (twitter+facebook), and stuff like that to help build up your traffic. Blog commenting is a great way too. I recommend spending your time working on marketing rather than spending the majority of your time just on articles which is what it looks like now.

    Good Luck!
  • I work around 6 hours a day, the rest I delegate to my trusted VA's.
  • I have a full-time job, so only 0.5-1 hour a day.
