new to affiliate marketing

Hello Everybody,

My name is Justin and I am fairly new to the concept of affiliate marketing, but so far I am loving it. Now I know there is a lot to learn, but I would like to ask if I am at least on the right track. While learning about affiliate marketing, I singled out a few steps that I believe are most important to becoming a successful affiliate marketer; keyword research ( finding that keyword sub-niche with low competition and high search rates ), choosing the correct domain name, ensuring your site or blog is SEO friendly, and back linking/advertising. I am all very new to this and would love to hear what you have to say about my views on affiliate marketing. You can check out my first attempt to create income using this strategy at http://imbrokehelp.com

I am also writing an article for inspiring people with information on getting started in the affiliate world.

Critic and criticism would highly be appreciated!

Thanks,

Justin

Nice website you have there. You should always cloak your affiliate links even if your are just starting out. There are a few reasons why I like to cloak my affiliate links. First of all, it just makes them look neat and tidy. Instead of your link looking like this:

    http://www.website.hop.clickbank.com...=clicknbuy4872

It will look more like this: www.yoursite.com/coolstuff

Here are a few (free) link cloaking WP-plugins:
    • Link Manager
    • WP Marketer
    • Hidden Affiliate Links
    • Pretty Link
    • Booklinker (only for books)
    • Link Hopper
    • WP Link Changer

    Hi Jharris!

I am glad you are taking action and willing to learn the true path towards success.

You can greatly increase your chances of making affiliate commissions by building a targeted list of subscribers too.

Owning your own email list allows you to collect hot prospects names and email addresses so you can continue to market the possibilities to them and recommend related affiliate products at the back end of your sales funnel.

Placing an opt-in form onto your blog is also a great way to collect email addresses and allows you to give great information away whilst building trust and credibility.

If you want to know more you can download the free report below that will get you started quickly.

Hope this helps and all the best my friend!!!

I agree, you have a great looking site there!

If I might add keyword research is important - but you should at different ways to drive traffic to your website as well. Google changes their algorthim a lot, and you don't want your income to all to be in 1 basket.

The most important thing you can do to make money online is BUILD YOUR LIST. 90% of your income will come from people who have subscribed to your list.

Other than that just keep reading - warrior forum is a great place to learn all about internet marketing. Just make sure to take action on everything you learn.

    To your high success!

    +1 for building a list.

Plus, I believe you're really choosing a wrong angle of approach here. You're targeting broke people and trying to get them to buy something? Why would they part with their last coins? Do you really think they're gonna spend money on an ebook?

I believe you need to learn a little more about copywriting before venturing into the affiliate business world. Also, as a friendly advice, don't rely on Google, especially if you're new and all your SEO knowledge comes from other sources than your personal experience.

Thanks you all for the words of criticism, I really do appreciate it.

      @RussellK
      Affiliate links are now cloaked

      @MKCookins
I have now added a way to begin generating a list from my site. Thank you very much for this tip!

      @gabibeowulf
You are absolutely right about the angle, I was thinking I could attract people that are broke but may still be able to fork little money into something that could pay off down the road. Do you have any suggestions on where to go to learn about copywriting?

Once again, thanks so much you guys!

      Hi Justin,

You need a powerful incentive for people to give you their email address, to build a list. "To receive automatic updates when new ideas are posted" just isn't going to cut it, I'm afraid. "To receive your FREE 25-page PDF report on 'Appropriate Subject' ", with a prominent bullet-point list of its direct benefits to them will interest many more people.

This is how your competitors, in the hugely competitive market you've chosen, are building their lists.

It's also less than optimal to require people to complete three input-boxes, in order to subscribe. Their email address is all you really need, perhaps? The numbers of people opting in will be in inverse proportion to the amount of information requested.

      Good luck!

    Nice blog you have there.

I totally second Alexa. You need a better incentive for people to sign up.

A free ebook is usually used at this end. Don t have one? don t worry...
    check out resell-rights-weekly.com

The most info you should ask there would be name + email, making it 2 fields at most!

Use your thank you page as a special offer page where you can promote an affiliate offer.

Integrate social media! I like shareholic plugin, which is free and looks very nice in your post.
I also like scrolling social sharebar plugin.

Keep learning as much as you can, especially about marketing in general, copywriting, traffic generation, list building.

Not sure if you should have chosen one of the toughest niches to make money with online, but i guess that if you're determined, roll with it.

Making money quick and easy is non-existent online.... unless you have a $10,000 advertising budget (or $5,000 - pick one). Site looks straight. Not sure what you want me to do when i arrive to your site though.

    Hey Justin, welcome here?

Question: Is 'im broke help' a keyword you're targeting on purpose because of traffic/search volume or anything?

If so. It's not a good one. Targeting broke people and trying to get money from them is hard. Cause.. being broke means they kinda don't have any

Just trying to spare you a whole bunch of frustration later!

For targeting your audience, it's absolutely vital that you make sure you're targeting hungry buyers WITH MONEY. Or its for nothing. You might still make sales. But it'll always be like pulling teeth and setting things up right from the beginning will make you a ton more money with the same amount of work

So if you want to get started in the IM niche, try going after people who hate their jobs. Cause it means they have a job that pays them money to buy your stuff.

    Keep plugging along!!
