Best way to drive traffic without original content ?

Looks stupid .. isn't it ?

But is there any way to drive traffic from non-original content ? Wikitravel - for example provide content under Creative Commons which allow to use their content without permission. Google should not penalize for that.

But it would be harder to get rank in search engine.

I have seen lots of website using content copies from other website yet appearing in the google results that too on the first page. How do they manage to do that ?

    Hello Amit,

You can try doing content curation, which would be adding your own thoughts about the content that you are using. If done correctly, it could help you get ranked naturally in the search engine results pages (SERP's). Other wise you might want to consider using cheap paid traffic.

I second this suggestion. I've been using a mixture of content curation and original content on my blog and I've had great success with it.

I do content curating in the form of link roundups. I focus on curating pillar content I find around the net and content of top bloggers that I want to build relationships with, and then compile them into one resourceful blog post.

The best way that I've found to drive traffic with content curation is to focus on using it to get on the radars of top bloggers in your niche and using it as a way to start building and maintaining relationships with them.

As you compile links on your blog, pointing back to others content, you can also let the author know that you've included them and their content on your blog via email or a @mention on Twitter. More than likely the author will come and check out your roundup and thank you for the mention, plus, they'll usually share your post with their social networks as well - bringing you even more traffic.

However, I don't think building relationships would be truly effective if you don't have at least some of your own original content on your blog.

In fact, the content doesn't have to be completely original. You can use PLR content, modify it a little bit by adding your own spin and personality to it, then publishing it on your blog.

Relationships, in my book, is the one of only long-term traffic methods that you can completely depend on for years to come. Regardless of how many times Google has it's "mood swings."

So focusing on curation in this way will reap fast and consistent traffic.

      Does this help you?

The curation model can work but you need to be in the right niche, both the standpoint of interest and site generating content you can curate on your site.

Your question was not clear as to why you have chosen this route. Giving your reason(s) may generate more suggestions.

Huh, depending on the paid traffic you are using you can send it to any content you want, whether duplicate or not.

SEO maybe not, but most paid traffic will be fine.

        You didn't get my point.

I think he wants to avoid unique content because he can't afford it.

My point is that if he can't afford original content then he can't afford paid traffic either.

I will agree with everyone here. I have a decent amount if experience with writing and the same goes for article marketing. Write what you know or at lease want to know about. Be passionate about it and it will come across. Copying others ideas and trying to pawn then for rankings is not a good idea and it gives this industry a bad name sometimes when it is done in mass. as an affiliate manager I will never accept affiliates who do this. if they give credit and have original content then it's another story

If I was you I would stay well away from duplicate content. Google only loves original content and by copying other content for use on your blog or article directories will destroy your business, credibility and any chances of you getting on google's first page.

I have no idea as to why other marketers are getting ranked for duplicate content but I'm certain Google will eventually clamp down on it.

Duplicate content is a BIG NO NO!

You keep on saying this, Neil, in spite of people explaining to you that you appear not to understand what "duplicate content" is.

You've confused it with "syndicated content".

As Google keeps going to such lengths to clarify, they're two different things. Look at many of the world's leading sports or news websites: the majority of their content is syndicated from other sites like Reuters and/or Associated Press. It doesn't damage their SEO prospects at all.

The differences between the two are briefly explained in this post and this little article.

Not only is this mistaken, but we can all easily see for ourselves that it's mistaken - hence the OP's question. He asked why so many sites with syndicated content are on the first page of Google's SERP's (which they are). It's unhelpful to him to try to answer by offering the opinion that syndicating content will destroy any chances of his getting onto Google's first page. He already knows that's not true: that's how his question arose!

Keep away from such business model.
There are several reasons why authority website can use duplicate content but it will not work for newly created ones:

    - A lot of content is already there
    - They use non-copyrighted content
    - They maki it indexed by Google first before original source
    - Much higher authority than original content source which makes Google to think that original source is the one who copied it.
    - It is mixed with loads of unique articles or at least comments

Why we always so worried about search engine?

be worried about your audience, because in Search Engine Optimization our main goal is conversion or selling product if you posses an e-commerce site.

And even if Google place you on first page, it won't help you until and unless you are not getting conversion, which highly depends on site's trust factor.

And you will not be succeeded until and unless you are creating original and relevant content for your site.

Last but not the least Search Engine dislikes a site if it has optimized only for crawlers to get only good ranking on SERPs, it always says optimize your site for visitors so that they will get benefited not crawlers.

Just compose your knowledge in some short notes and that is an article. So what's so dificult about writing an article that you want to use the content of other sites. Google may give a chance to stand on Google pages for the first time but it may also throw you out of the ground in the next update. So don't take that risk and don't joke with your site if your dream is to make money from it.

You can definitely drive traffic without unique content -- you don't need to necessarily rely on SEO to drive your traffic however.

Say you have a website with the top posts in a certain niche; now if you market that properly through social media and other forms, you can attract visitors to read your articles (even though they're not yours). If it's properly laid out and the site offers a lot of value even through unoriginal content, you can gain followers.

Of course, the marketing part is not that easy and heavy research needs to go into niche analysis. Those bigger brands have funding to help push forward the marketing process.

Step outside the box. The reason websites, blogs and ezine owners use non-original content is because they know the content will help their readers somehow. When you learn to concentrate on helping those in your niche, it won't matter where the content comes from.

It's always best to use original content and not try to cut corners, however. This gives you full say over the content and allows you to use it however you please.

    Amit Gupta,

You are right, I observed the same issue and I keep asking myself why Google doesn't penalize, downgrade those sites?

I guess because they have a good trust rank, very good visitor metrics... I guess these compensate for the duplication.

They also have much evergreen content. But it's believed that Google prefers fresh content over "plain evergreen content".

Sometimes I wonder how come it's always the big players that are getting away with it.

Overall as I know Google does indeed check the first results for at least certain niches, often-searched keywords MANUALLY. They have staff who actually select what they think is best to rank in the top 10-20-30... So the first sites are often voted for, verified by Google employees.

I am seeing a large number of shallow content spam-spinners in the top 10-20, while Google kicked so many visibly good sites for certain keywords. It's wicked how shallow content sites are still "up there"... it's been about 1 year since a great Panda flush and Google seems to have kept them there... they have null original content. As for own services: they either have nothing or they have affiliate ads on their 5-10 pages.

I think there are holes in the Google algorithm and many sites simply "get lucky" and stick in the top results for years...

Yeah heaps of large sites do it. Topix is probably the biggest I know of that has no original content of their own at all and that site is massive! They just curate it all.

The Huffington Post used to curate everything too, but now I noticed they write a lot of stuff themselves.

You can have all the traffic you want with copied and pasted content, but it won't be organic search results.

If you think your site will convert paid traffic, send all the paid traffic you can at it.... no not traffic exchanges or redirects or bots.... PPC or Media buys...

But free traffic? forget about it.

It’s hard to drive traffic to your website or blog even when you have original content. Why should you complicate everything even more?

If you cannot write your articles or pay someone to do it for you, then don’t create a website. There are other ways to get traffic, but you'll have many disadvantages without Google.

Write your own content. If you don't have time to do that, hire somebody else to do it for you. But then again, if it's something you could hire for...it might not have that much value. Try to deliver your unique value to the world that comes from a new and different angle that targets a specific niche of people. You can do it.
